Tio's Tortas is Closed? Damn It, Where's Our Christmas Miracle Now?

• Tios Tortas was absolutely nothing at all like Taco Cabana or Taco Bell! It was fresh, creative and delicious. I am a Mexican and enjoy authentic tortas onece a while, but Tios was such a treat. The owner, who I spoke to on a few occasions, was very passionate and would explain how he would cook the pork for hours...It was obvious to me the love that went into each lovely concoction. I hope another one opens because my mouth misses it sumpin fierce!

• Hopefully that's true... I miss Tio's. Authentic or not, all I know is they were damn good.

• just in case you guys want to hear this, they are going to open somewhere in plano/N Dallas area. (been an avid fan - tried all 14 or so sandwiches)

• Loved the Cuban torta at Tios Tortas. Had a group of 4 friends who'd beg me to take them there whenever they would visit from Oklahoma City. Loved the salsa bar (spicy mango, cranberry, yum!) Was fun to read the trivial pursuit cards while eating. I think location might've been the problem. Hopefully they'll relocate near Lovers Lane and Greenville (might want to look into the locations where Two Rows was).

• I'm late to the memorial...back from vacation and just found out. I am so bummed. The Milanese was my favorite and oh, that condiment bar. And that smiling crew behind the counter. And the Tijuana Brass from the speakers. Will try La Hechizera, but much love to those who were behind Tio's.

• Thanks RW, for your support and for your business. WOW, cp & Toots! What straight up haters! Sorry you didn�t like it but, damn, who do you think runs independent restaurants? Faceless, uncaring, gigantic corporate entities? No. It�s hard working, well meaning people, maybe like you on a better day, who are just trying to make a living and make something happen. Yeah go and get a traditional torta from a �real� torta shop. I highly recommend it. That�s why we do what we do- because we love �em, La Hechizera especially. They are authentic and we don�t even pretend to be. You are entitled to your opinion but Taco Cabana? Really? By contrast, we make everything from scratch out of real fresh food, even bake our own bread everyday. The internet affords you a level of anonymity so you can say what you want but I wonder if someday your sh!t will be down and someone will come dis you on it. Yeah, call me a whiny bitch, but in the restaurant business you can�t please everybody so you do what�s in your heart. If you don�t like it then it�s your right not to come back when we reopen in a new location. Or better yet come and tell me how much I suck to my face so I can try to make a torta you�ll like. That�s what we do with constructive complaints. We try to do better.

• I have such mixed feelings. I mean, the place had a nice sense of charm as well as some purty good food that wasn't like much else on Lemmon. But a meal there usually required a small business loan. As good as their food was, it was never worth the pretty penny I swiped in that place. And fortunately I've found some bada$$ tortas at Fuel Town (no, not Fuel City) that are mucho cheaper and will melt your face off.

• I drove by Tio's today and noticed that it had been stripped bare. Personally, I think the menu was too constraining. Every torta had black beans which I had them put on the side and all the layers of food didn't help either. To me, that's just too heavy of a meal to have for lunch. I think some lighter options without having to introduce all the flavors into one dish would have helped the restaurant. Less is more in many cases.

• Hey, hey, now... Back off Taco Bueno. Granted it may not be 'true' Tex-Mex, but it should not be lumped in with those other places. Cabana is best at two in the morning when one is shit-canned drunk. Queso and a dozen tortillas...good eats there.

• Thanks for proving my point Cp. Yes Taco Cabana would be missed, but not by me. There are many more real Mexican food places.

• Was a damn shock to me and my gal. Great food, great people (man, right before the holidays, too, way to go corporate), perhaps I can learn to make the Pavo, Barbacoa, or the scrumptious Milanesa for myself.

• Well now Toots, I would whine if Taco Cabana went away. It's the only fast food establishment that I can eat at. I mean, you're comparing good Mexican food to a wannabe trendy knock-off and Taco Cabana to.... what exactly? Taco Bell? Taco Bueno? Kentucky Fried Chicken? Wendy's? Yeah, given those choices, Taco Cabana is the best food in the universe.

• I'm with you Cp. Imagine the whining if Taco Cabana went out of business?

• Tio's sucked anyway. Adios to bad "Mexican" food. You want some damn good tortas? Head on over to La Hechizera on Maple, just east (south?) of Inwood. Promise, once you go there your memories of Tio's will totally evaporate.

• Aw, dammit. This is a major bummer.

• That is so sad. I loved Tios. I just wish there was some sort of warning. I tried to go around Thanksgiving and all the sign said was try in a week. A little piece of me just died.

• Tio's was damn good, and that condiment bar was off the hook, but it didn't taste "Mexican," if you will. Hit up any number of taquerias on Maple for a real one- you'll like them. La Hechizera at Inwood and Maple would be a good start.
