Thanks to the Friend of Unfair Park who alerted me to Robert Jeffress's appearance FOX & Friends yesterday. The guy really gets around; hope he sent Rick Warren a nice Christmas card. --Robert Wilonsky
I have been pretty indifferent to the whole gay marriage issue since, well since it has been an "issue".
My partner and I are in the process of trying to have a baby. We have a donor and he has already been tested and sperm counted, etc. I will not be the one bearing the child. We met with a lawyer last week to discuss all the legalities of ensuring co-parenting responsibilities. It is absolutely mind-boggling, the amount of paperwork and safeguards that have to be put in place in order to ensure my rights as a parent, even after the donor has relinquished all rights. Our attorney is also looking into the possibility of me adopting as an extra precaution, if it can be done in Texas. Then there's the cost- our retainer is $6,000 to put together the wavier of rights for the donor, to appoint each other as our durable powers of attorney (I have an auto-immune disorder that, if hospitalized, I am sure my mother will want to fight treatment), and then there's something that names me as the person who makes decisions about the child if we become separated or if she dies, and then of course, our wills.
The point is that, all we want to do is go off to a quiet place and raise a family in peace. We have always agreed that we don't need a piece of paper to sanction or define our relationship, but when you throw kids into the mix, we are learning that we have to have a lot of things that would be best resolved with a marriage certificate. And it's obvious to me now that the laws just have not caught up with the times.
I think that guy on the show was right when he was talking about this issue not being about marriage but being about civil rights. I should have the right to adopt my partner's baby, I should have the right to raise my partner's biological child, without any interference from any church or the government, and if a simple marriage certificate is the thing that erases all doubt or legal claims to the contrary to what we, as a couple, decide is best for one another and OUR family, then it should be so.
After all, so many morons make babies and fail miserably at raising their own children, you don't even have to have a license to make a baby (and yet millions of Americans should be required to), millions of good Christian hypocrites get divorced and re-marry and start new families- their churches even have singles groups for divorcees, and yet we don't hear guys like Jefferies yelling about how horrible all that is.
Sorry, but there ain't no substitute for a penis and vagina. They both vibrate at 1/1000 second when they are most aroused.
Further the vagina has some 5 inches of grippy muscle, the "Hineyhole" is like finger and thumb with a stinky patois. For me, I'd rather old reliable over a beej or hanje. (Think I need a Swedish e there)
I know there are some impressive strides in prosthetics and the like, but y'all can color me conventional.
That said, I think it is plain silly that any two people can't form a civil union. I know of sisters, and a mother and daughter who live together and are each other's next of kin.
Whatever the relationship, two people should be able to go the county courthouse and register. This should provide civil protection in cases of intestate estates.
We all know toots was teased and poked with sticks as a kid, hence why he/she became the monster it is today ;)
Im going to agree with jack on this one. As a staight with the gift of gaydar, I coulda told you jeffress was a 3 dollar dandy at a 100 paces.
John M says:
When are we going to ignore this sinful glutinous neckless, ugly sack of fat? I am of course referring to Warren, Jefferess is also sinful and neckless but not so fat.
------------------------------------------
My God, John. Were you teased as a kid for being fat? Get over it. Fat or not fat they are all small minded fucks. Yeah! That's right.....I said FUCKS.
I want to encourage you to take a look at Saddleback Church where Rick preaches, particularly their HIV/AIDS Initiative, and consider this: how can a man labeled so divisive direct a church that seems so willing to help such diverse crowds? I'm not asking you to agree with what he says: think what you will. But first consider what the man has done before criticizing him for a few snippets grabbed off the AP wire. Dig deeper and consider his rationale.
As Americans, we've done that before, not so long ago. Flip the coin and the Reverend Jeremiah Wright comes to mind...
Lakewooder. I always think the world must stop for a nano second when we agree.
Regarding Jeffress, it is one thing that gay men/women come equipped with a gaydar, but when it come to men like Jeffress, you don't need one...common sense works just fine and dandy.
And I do mean dandy.
Isn't this wonderful?
The conversation of course. It's great that one of the first things that is coming with the swearing in of our new President is conversation about the rights of homosexuals and how we should define marriage.
If there is two topics out there we need to talk about it's the rights of homosexuals and how we should define marriage.
Marriage as we know it is sinking fast. The only good thing about that is the righteous wrong can't blame the homosexuals for that. They, the righteous wrong, have ruined marriage all on their own.
I believe they're also at the forefront for denying rights for homosexuals. Hmmm, do we see a pattern here?
Keep in mind, I speak out of love. I love a gay man. He's our son.
When are we going to ignore this sinful glutinous neckless, ugly sack of fat? I am of course referring to Warren, Jefferess is also sinful and neckless but not so fat.
Ya know, if you had a guy like, oh, I dunno, Charlton Heston get up and preach about "one man, one woman", it might not sound so weird, but listening to guys like Jeffress with their effeminate lilt ramble on and on about the sins of the hinny-hole is just creepy.
