Robert Jeffress on Obama-Warren Controversy: "Like Bizarro World."

• Wow! This is the first time I have seen Jeffress in action. If this guy is supposed to be some kind of spokesman for the Evangelical Christians, he's about as lame as he can be. He looked totally shifty-eyed greasy. This is the best advocate for Warren they could come up with? That smile is about as creepy and fake as his rug. If he's not honest about his hairdo, it kind of makes you wonder what else he is trying to cover up?

• On Proposition 8 he was silent. On the US Veto of the UN Resolution for decriminalizing homosexuality he was silent. On Don't Ask, Don't Tell, he says, "Wait." And now associating with someone who compares me to a pedophile? Where is the leadership?

Most folks are not going to see the Christians as Nazis but see you being way out on a limb with no tree in sight. What needs to be pointed out is the Christians who see homosexuals on the B Line to Hell also believe those six million Jews are in Hell as we speak. If you don't believe me, ask one. Ask a Christian like Jeffress if the Jews who died in the Holocaust are in Heaven or Hell. If they say the believe they're in Heaven then ask them how they got there without confessing their sins and asking Jesus to come into their hearts. Jews don't believe Jesus was the Son of God. Even though the Jews worship the same God they won't get to Heaven with the Christians because the Jews don't believe Jesus is the Son of God. So if you want to compare being a homosexual in a Christian world with being a Jew in the Nazi one keep in mind the end result is still the same. The Nazis tortured the Jews until they died. Then according to Christian dogma God and His Son took over and the Jews along with all other non-believers in Jesus being the Son of God will burn forever per Jesus Hisself. Christians aside, it isn't the gays who are going to change things. It's their parents, friends, and family that are going to make the difference. That's why I'm against the closet. I believe everyone loves a gay person. They just need to know it.

• mjmdallas, there's a reason the high road is the preferred one. It's the view. The extra effort is worth it. The reason the rascals like Warren get traction in the public opinion arena is they tend to confirm the surface thinker's fear that it's really all about sex. They say homosexuals wanting to get married is all about sex. Now keep in mind these same people like to talk about how the Islamic terrorists rush to commit suicide because there's seventy virgins on the other side with legs spread and arms wide open. How many times have you heard someone like Jeffress talk about the plumbing of marriage? You know, the plumbing, Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve? Is that sick or what? They're sick. They're wrong. And there's a better way. We need to talk about marriage, not plumbing. We need to talk about the importance of family, not sex as the reason for it all. Listen to some of Jeffress' sermons on youtube. He doesn't talk about marriage as family. He only talks about the sex. There's a higher road. They haven't discovered it because it's not in the gutter.

• Gravypan, you bring up a good point. For some time now I've said the gay marriage thing might be the best thing to come along for marriage itself. Traditional marriage before the modern traditionalists got into the marriage business was a pretty smart thing. Marriage was about family. Not in the way the modern tradionalists see marriage, but with a much larger vision. It was a way to make the family unit richer and or stronger because it was about alliances and dowries. It wasn't about the happiness of the two people hooking up. It was about the welfare of their families. One of the things I find most interesting about that marriage model is the acceptance that romantic reasons for getting married are the poorest reasons for a marriage. That's just inferred when the reasons for marriage ignore romantic fantasy. We could use that today. Young people today are being bombarded with messages about romantic love from the two worst sources of information the world has ever known. On the one hand we see the media, Hollywood etc, pushing romantic love as good and reason enough to get married. While on the other we have the other fantasy generating entity, religion pushing the same line of puckybull. If we're going to survive as a successful society we need to find a way to make a family strong. The best way to do that historically and I believe logically, is to make it about rules, contractual even, based upon what is really important, family. We don't have to go back to the old times of marriage decided by old people either. But we do need to acknowledge that there's alot more to it than dreamy looks and creamed jeans. The beauty of a contract is it forces both parties to consider the worst possible circumstances and to have an agreement about how to deal with those circumstances if they happen. Looking at marriage as a contract between two people of the same sex agreeing upon the rights and responsibilities of both parties in that marriage forces us to look at marriage between opposite sex couples a whole new way. It forces us to look at marriage as more than something besides legalized sexual activity or public acceptance of the fantasy about what God has put together let no man destroy. This isn't a new thing, redefining marriage so that it works. But it is interesting that gays wanting to participate in marriage seems to be the catalyst for changing the way we look at marriage. The reason I say that is I believe we've been rebeling against the modern traditionalists concept of marriage for a long time. I believe cohabitating is a statement about marriage as we know it being wrong. I believe kids engaging in sexual activity younger and younger is another statement about the importance of sex in a marriage as being wrong. That's inate wisdom expressing itself. That's us talking to us through a generational language about our own hypocracy. That's us telling us that we need family and family isn't only about sex. I know. The Christians, bless their poor mistaken hypocritical hearts, say that marriage isn't just about sex. But what is their reasoning behind denying it for homosexuals? Isn't it only about the sex? I have hope. That's because I believe every day we're closer to a world where marriage will be defined around family and not sex. And one of the interesting things about making marriage about family instead of sex is we might find out that sex has it's own place. And that place might not include doing it to make a statement about marriage.

• I'm not talking about just the issue of marriage; I'm talking about equality, and Warren's statements and views toward homosexuality are bigoted and cruel.Ask the Jews if they would sit quietly by if David Duke were invited to the inauguration as a way to"reach out" to the other side.

• This comment thread is what happens when one substitutes logic and reason for over the top rhetoric. If there is no clearly defined meaning of what marriage should be (ie, one man and one woman) then who is to say that any marriage is not valid? That's all Warren's point really boils down to. I'd expect gay marriage supporters to use some logic and reason to answer this question. But why do that when it's more convenient to label the other side as a bunch of homophobes and bigots?

• Under normal circumstances, Harvey Lacy, I would agree with you, but when Rick Warren says he believes gays suffer from a recessive gene that will eventually work itself out of the gene pool, I don't agree with giving this man a prominent place in this historic event. Substitute "Blacks, Jews, Women, Hispanics" in the place of gays in his belief and then tell me we would be having this discussion. THat is the stuff Hitler, skinheads and the KKK spew. And Jeffries is a mere lap dog of the poodle breed is appears.

• I'm rowing against the flow on this one. I'm glad to see Barack invite Warren into the fold, even onto the inaugural platform. I see two good things coming from this. The first is of course it castrates Warren when it comes to having the whatevers to jump on the administration. But the important message it presents is we need to look at the overall good sometimes in people when we judge them. Think about it. Is there any difference between the Warren and Jefferies of this world condemning people to Hell for being gay and ignoring all the wonderful things gays give to society and gays condemning Warren and Jefferies to Hell for slamming gays and ignoring all the good things they do for community? Isn't the best lesson from this for both sides is homosexuality shouldn't be the issue that divides us? Keep in mind, I love a gay man. He's our son. Jack. I capiche. Jefferies couldn't help himself in the presence of my son. It would be hilarious to watch.

• As the executive director of one of the largest GLBT community centers in the U.S., it is surprising, outrageous and disrespectful that President-Elect Obama selected Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the Presidential inauguration next month. Given Warren�s divisive and homophobic history and statements, it is like inviting and highlighting the grand wizard of the KKK at this historic event. On the heels of the Proposition 8 vote in California, it is insulting to the scores of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender voters who backed the President-Elect�s candidacy and has the potential to hurt his support in this key constituency. • I just want to know when Obama is going to announce David Duke is speaking at his inauguration, in the name of inclusiveness and all Oh, and at least Warren was giving those donuts out instead of eating them. God wanted him to have a neck and gluttony is a sin too.

• I am glad to see that the Jeffress PR machine worked to his advantage. Put a controversial sign in front of your church, call Rod Dreher, get some local supportive press and wham...you are on ABC. While Jeffress may be well on his way to mega church superstardom on the backs of the GLBTQ community, eventually he will become Haggard. Rick Warren has proven that he is cool with gay people because he offered them "water and donuts" while comparing them to older men who have sex with babies. Rick Warren states that he has even had a gay in his house. I think perhaps Robert Jeffress has too, without realizing it. Capiche?

• Both of those guys look weird. Robert is wearing a hair piece from hell and David has more make up on his face than Tammy Faye Baker. Not the crunchiest chips in the bag, are they?
