Who lets the #1 show in the metroplex go?!?

I hope Russ and the crew aren't off the air altogether. I'm not a big fan of pure sports talk so the mix with Ben and Skin, in my opinion, had just the right about of sports. I'm not to happy at the moment. At least till I find out more about what happened.

The only reason I ever listen to this station is for Russ & Jagger (in that order of importance). Ben & Skin suck, IMHO. They have lost this listener and my wife & several of my friends who listened for Russ for sure, more than likely regardless of Jagger staying. I wanted issue radio, not another damn sports station.

So another radio station has chosen to challenge The The Ticket, except they haven't had that much caller input since their early days. THIS is what North Texas sports fans want!! Good Luck with the the new format and once I move up from the frontier known as Abilene, you will have a loyal listener!

P.S. If Gavin had anything to do with this, he really is the idiot that Russ always made him out to be.

I've always like the idea of a format that mixes music and sports talk - my two favorite things in the world... could be especially cool if the music wasn't some mainstream crap, but songs that work within an ironic context to the sports subject matter.

Talk about the Cowboy game yesterday, then drop Beck's "Loser" in the mix. Talk about Mark Cuban, then play Pink Floyd's "Money". Talk about the Stars, and preface it with "Ice Ice, Baby". Talk about the Rangers' latest draft crop, and play The Who's "Who Are You?".

Not drops, but full songs. The possibilities are endless.

Trust me, this format could work if any radio station in town was brave enough to give it a shot. Could be hilarious...

Listening to that show is (was)like wandering into the middle of a boring 4 hour conversation between a handful of people who you wouldn't want to hang out with anyway.

I've listened to 105.3 since day one, and have listened to Russ when he was on 97.1. However, Ben and Skin have become my #1...by far. I'm dissapointed with his departure, but he's been talking about going to Clear Channel for awhile, so maybe it's true. Look out 97.1 and 93.3, you may be getting some Russ....soon!

MikeyB, you are a moron. They wouldn't change the entire station format for a bit. Get a clue, Live 105.3 and Russ Martin are gone.

Not having a solid point in the midday showing was one of the biggest problems this station had from the get go. Mornings were great, afternoons were great, but they just couldn't nail down middays.

Russ isn't in jail - yet. He isn't scheduled to appear in court until January. So that's not the issue. This is clearly just another bad format decision by Gavin and the others dumbasses at 105.3. From Country to Talk and now to Sports?

The owners should write a book on how to turn a successful radio station into a worthless piece of frequency real-estate.

Thinktank: Economy sucks, CBS Radio is running red, paying Russ and the RMS show was not helping the bottom line. Now, what happens when companies need to make room in their budget? They start looking at who their paying the most, and compare what they're paying out vs what $ is coming in. Even though Russ is #1, his price is too high and it's not generating enough advertising bucks to be considered financially advantageous.

Can any of you Russ worshippers explain why you think he was so great? All I ever got from listening was the impression that he was an arrogant, self-important, elitist, misogynistic tool. He's Bill O'Reilly in a Batmobile.

The Ticket has beat Russ in the ratings for as long as this site has been alive. If Russ drew ratings he'd still be on the air. You knuckleheads that think ownership are idiots for letting Russ go clearly don't realize that decisions like this are based on ratings which draw advertising.

I hope Russ Martin gets another show somewhere else. Though if he's already been through Clear Channel and CBS, who's left? Dallas radio has been really bad for a long long time. 105 was the only station I listened to, what the hell am I supposed to do now? Guess it is back to the ipod...

This is obviously an ill-considered move if the ratings were translating into sales revenues for the station.

Russ Martin (whose show I personally enjoyed as did my wife) may not have been enough of a revenue generator for the station's owners.

Gavin's efforts to make lightning strike twice by finding another show as entertainingly listenable and lucrative as Russ Martin may gave fallen short. Some of the programs during the day and overnight may not have been carrying their own weight.

Radio station owners (especially large radio holding companies) tend to be averse to risk and would go with a safe and known format (sports radio) rather than do something innovative -- stick with it, fine tune it and figure out how to monetize it.

Based upon what I heard, if they couldn't figure out how to make money from Live 105, the problem may have been with the local management of the station itself.

The Russ Martin Show could be a flagship program for a variety of station formats -- not just talk radio.

I suspect that if legal matters do not prevent him from doing so, Russ Martin will surface somewhere else on the radio in Dallas in due course.

And if that happens, no live promo of the new "The Fan 105.3" will be safe from his antics.

First of all, so you know where I stand:

1. I can't stand the Ticket because they talk more about tramp stamps than they do sports. A true sports fan wants sports, especially when you only have so long to listen.

2. I liked the Russ Martin show. Liked, didn't love, I only listened occasionally.

The real person to blame here: Michael Irvin! His radio show is so utterly unlistenable, an exec realized there's a niche of people like me who can't stand to listen to either the Ticket or ESPN radio.

It's not a bit, and I'll be able to guarantee that tomorrow. I'm staring at a contract to buy advertising on 105.3 for my company (live reads from JD with his talent fee). We weren't planning to sign until later this week, so I can guarantee you my Marketing company that I buy my media through will let me know whats up tomorrow.

Finally a local sports station that has a freq that can broacast to Tarrant county. Weak ass Ticket...bet the whole smug ego driven KTCK crew are shitting their pants about this. This will be the beginning of the end for the Ticket

I'm wondering if the main reason they're doing this is because they're going after the Cowboys broadcast rights. It's been well recorded how the Cowboys are disappointed with the Ticket's mediocre signal and there do not seem to be plans to upgrade that. So the Cowboys seem to be wanting out of the deal. If 105.3 grabs the Cowboys to hang their hat on, then it may be able to survive a lineup that might work great on the Ticket but fails outside it.

I bet Greggo tries to go over there now. Greggo and K-Scott may be interesting.

It was and is the dumbest move a station could make. the listeners will prove that. Russ was enjoyed by many though out the DFW. to those that don't like him...what kept you from just changing the channel. It's not like anyone forced you to listen. You may after all love shows others don't like. I'm not going to sit here and slam what you like. Why do you feel the need to be so ugly? and sorry for anyone who thinks it's a bit, it's not. Tom leykis was the only show I cared about on there. I can't believe I'll only be able to hear him on the internet and IPOD now

I'm a stay at home mother of FIVE kids. Russ helped me cook supper every day. Sometimes he went a little farther than I would approve of in general, but it's better than hearing Barney and Hannah Montana out of my living room. The radio in the evenings is full of news and traffic.
And he made me laugh!....they all did on that show. A good chuckle sometime during my 'mommy' ridden day, is priceless.

Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it. Does David Henry remember what happened to KEGL after Russ left that station? Once he was on the air on KLLI, KEGL disappeared. Don't get me wrong, I actually like Ben & Skin, they do a good job ... but Russ is a legend in this market. He'll land somewhere else (probably back at the Eagle) and bury Ben & Skin (along with Pugs and Kelly) in the ratings again. Then it will only be a matter of time before The Fan changes format to Tejano.

Hmmm...I followed Russ over the years. It is sad that he just isn't funny anymore. If you really take an objective listen to the Russ Martin show you would see that he has just become an angry drunk with a microphone, and a groveling group of grown men that constantly kiss his bunghole. I hate that someone has lost a job but between him and Gavin's whining I am glad to see that show go.

I've been a live listener since it was "The Talk That Rocks" 8 years ago. Now I get to either listen to NPR or right-wing am talk all day /puke. Sports talk is the most unimaginative myopic format and i never thought my live1053 would change direction like this. It's like listening to roleplay geeks talk about dnd or magic cards for 16 hours a day. The station now has no original content of value, its nothing more than a giant sports media leech, feeding off of every possible tidbit of information, and trying to fill a programming schedule.

Apart from Drummer (probably a Dan Lewis fan), I can only see 1 other loser here, and that's CBS.

Bad decision after bad decision. If u have stock in CBS (yeah right) try and give it away b4 u end up owing on them. I didn't like P&K too much myself, but I could see their place on a Talk station and the audience they'd attract. U can't have 100% RMS shows 24/7 even if there would be a large %age who'd buy into it. Including the sponsors CBS have just lost (another great decision).

RMS will end up on some platform, any1 with an ounce of sense will know that. That's just a matter of time.

There shouldn't be any ill-feeling for those left behind. Corporate decisions are what they are.

Just gotta keep an eye out for which station RMS re-appears on.

Russ was 1 of 5 shows cancelled. RMS,The Dan O'Malley Show,The Evert Newton Show,Big Dick's Wild Ass Circus and The Tom Leykis Show.Only 2 shows were retained,The Jagger Show and Ben and Skin. Now CBS Radio will have to pay out Russ and J'D. contrcts which combined is probably over $6 million a year until 2011 unless which is more likely they will settle so Russ will be back on air within mere months.I think The Bone should hire Russ and the rest of the treehouse.The RMS brought inso much money through advertisers that they will make 2 or 3 times what is paid out to bring the RMS to their station.Of course P&K WOULD HAVE TO BE FIRED AGAIN but that is always greatness!

As for "Amy" his girlfriend,the trial will go no where since they have been back together for quite a while now.If you ever really listened to the RMS you would know that.
