FOX News Takes an Interest in Harold Simmons and Oprah's Friendship

Categories: Politics
O_Magazine_cover.jpgThis morning, Roger Friedman of FOX News has cobbled together a series of old newspaper clips and federal tax returns in an effort to make sense of the Oprah Winfrey-Harold Simmons love affair. Because, after all, Winfrey was chief among Barack Obama's backers, while the Dallas billionaire and Swift Boat co-captain is "perhaps Barack Obama's single greatest political enemy," writes the hyperbolic Friedman, referring, of course, to the big bucks Simmons spent on that Bill Ayers ad.

Much of what Friedman offers comes from old Dallas Morning News stories, but he's added them all up in a lengthy compendium of items and events and is especially fascinated by the figure of $5 million, which the philantrhopic Simmons pledged to next-door-neighbor Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. Hence the headline, which is missing the requisite exclamation mark: "Oprah Took Millions from Obama Foe." --Robert Wilonsky
