Prof to Creationists: Don't Mess With Texas Science Education

Categories: News
Barbara Forrest, speaking at SMU last week

In keeping with the spirit of Monday's item concerning the release of the study Evolution, Creationism & Public Schools: Surveying What Texas Scientists Think about Educating Our Kids in the 21st Century, last week SMU hosted a speech by Barbara Forrest, author of Creationism's Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intelligent Design. Forrest, a professor of philosophy at Southeastern Louisiana University, is perhaps intelligent design's biggest foe -- as evidenced by her testimony during the Tammy Kitzmiller, et al. v. Dover Area School District, et al. case, the first federal court action brought against a school district attempting to teach intelligent design alongside evolution.

Forrest, interviewed here at great length following the judge's ruling against the teaching of intelligent design, was brought to SMU, in part, by the Texas Freedom Network. And, yes, they're the same folks responsible for this week's controversial study. For those so interested -- and seems there are plenty of you -- SMU has just made Forrest's speech available as a downloadable MP3. The title of her lecture wasn't provocative at all: "Why Texans Shouldn't Let Creationists Mess With Science Education." --Robert Wilonsky
