At Harold's, Everything Must Go

Categories: Biz, Fashion

Hard to believe, as Harold's has been a part of the local retailing landscape since forever, but four days after announcing it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the Dallas-based chain is, indeed, shuttering all 43 of its stores, it was announced today -- including its four Dallas-Fort Worth shops. "It's very sad," said the woman who answered the phone at the Inwood Village location. Harold's only moved into the spot five months ago, following its relocation from its longtime Highland Park Village home. "We haven't really digested it yet, but it's very real. We feel ... " Her voice trails off.

So everything must go, with the inventory marked down at least 30 percent. But the woman at Harold's in Inwood Village says some items are 40 to 50 percent off -- including jewelry and shoes. No checks, of course, and no returns, as always in these end-of-an-era sales. "We've been told we'll shut down in three or four months," she says, adding that some inventory from stores being shuttered immediately will likely end up in the Dallas locations. "But who knows." --Robert Wilonsky
