School Board's Carla Ranger on DISD: "The Wrong People Are in Charge."

DISD school board trustee Carla Ranger

Yesterday, shortly before the Dallas Independent School District officially announced it's rehiring 57 of the teachers laid off two weeks ago, school board trustee Carla Ranger yet again laid into the district and its leadership. As in: "It is hard to do the right thing when the wrong people are in charge." This came five days after the District 6 trustee lambasted the school board, and especially board president Jack Lowe, for failing to even consider a rigorous ethics policy.

She also writes about Texas Education Agency Commissioner Robert Scott's visit to 3700 Ross Avenue on Friday, when he suggested the state hasn't ruled out intervening in the district's affairs. From the sound of it, Ranger would welcome the assist: "We have a very serious mis-management problem. Still, the Dallas ISD Trustees hold no one accountable. The buck doesn't stop -- it dances. That happens when the wrong people are in charge and personal agendas are more important than public trust." --Robert Wilonsky

She's right. The electorate has committed criminally neglect political malpractice by electing what is probably the most incompetent school board in this history of Dallas schools.

Don't blame me, I voted, and not for any of the morons in charge.

I love Dallas schools says:

Everyone needs to write to TEA Commissioner Robert Scott and ask him to take over and divide, dissolve or reconsitute the district.

darryl says:

Put Carla in charge!

Her only error is stating that the problem is in mid management. It's in the highest levels of managment, including Hinojosa himself.

How does a district lay off a few hundred people and accept resignations and then say, "oops, we lost too many."

Ridiculous.

Amy S says:

Wait, isn't Carla ultimately one of those in charge? Does she place no blame on her role only on others?

I'm for a revised ethics policy, but I think it should include the "non-profits" AND companies that board members "consult" for.

Just wait until the finger printing project is complete. They will soon uncover all of the felons we have that are employed with DISD. After they fire those, there will be yet another shortage and they'll be hiring again. Put a tent over that circus!

Aaron says:

She's right but she is not perfect. She can shoot the shit on her blog and thats it. She does not have the support of the board to sack Hinojosa and if we did we would have to pay him over a million dollars and then what? Lowe needs to resign and if the ethics policy was honest then he would. They have crafted it, as you know, so that he can maintain his million dollar contracts with DISD while school board president......Then what, Ron Price as Pres, give me a break.

She does not answer citizens questions who are crying out for her help and to help her!!! She probably feels helpless. A citizen movement, similar to the crazy Schutzes plan, could get Lowe out and a majority of the board may then be possible if we scare Flores, Price, Medrano enough.........We are ready to mobilize and not only picket Trustees but make them understand that they need to think of the children first and making money last. Please advise Carla.

amy s-
Employees of nonprofits or community colleges hardly have a profit interest in DISD.

Jack Lowe's company makes money off DISD--short and simple. Some of you people in North Dallas make money off the bond issue--that's the reason you sent your gang of Scovall and Ware down to the judge to get the faucet turned back on for all the attorneys and construction companies making money off the shoddy work done.

Flores lead the charge to dilute the ethics policy by bringing up the red herring of community colleges. He has also been Hinojosa's boy 100%. His continued regard of the person most want gone says everything.

If citizens could vote to oust this superintendent, he would be gone. That fact that Ranger caught on early to the fact that Hinojosa is a pure fraud speaks to her character. The fact that some North Dallas folks want the door to be left open to sit on the DISD board of trustees and work for private sector companies that do business with the district suggests the need for an ethics check.

No one sitting on the board who works for a private sector business should be allowed to do ANY business with DISD.

When will the Texas Rangers arrive and tell us what REALLY happened to all the state, federal, and local tax money that disappeared?

amy s-Want to expalin why you still support the most corrupt, ineffective superintendent in DISD history? What is your personal benefit here? Bond monies coming your way?
