Developers envision Industrial, a gritty three-mile strip, becoming a destination of condominiums and upscale shopping.

Gritty? If it's "gritty" now, what was it in the 1980s, before they cleaned it up? Squalid? Suppurating?

And sadly, all these articles fail to report on the Trini Lopez angle...

Caesar Chavez Street Naming is an Extension of the Trinity Park Corruption, and Hispanic Corruption/Betrayal.

Dallas is a mess, just like our Nation.

Why? Corruption and greed.

Dallas is a minority majority city, but this minority majority is being betrayed by its own leaders.

Take the hispanic city council members. All three voted in favor of the Trinity Tollway which will significantly degrade the park, and diminish its quality. However, the hispanic voter constituency, in a kind of VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE, ALL WENT AGAINST THE THREE HISPANIC CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, and voted against the Tollway inside the park.

When the voters went for re-naming Industrial to Caesar Chavez Blvd, again, all three hispanic city council members went against their constituency, supporting re-naming Ross, which was total politics...and stupidity...and cowardace...and betrayal.

Two good compromise names for Industrial would be:

1. Chavez Trinity Blvd.
2. Chavez Riverfront Blvd.

With this "flexible" naming, both sides should be happy. Industrial is going to be re-named, and it will be a prominent name in Dallas future.

Some may call it Chavez Blvd, and some may call it Trinity or Riverfront Blvd, making both the Hispanics and the racist "Gringos" who don't want to call it an Hispanic name happy.

Dallas Hispanic population will be a majority in about 5 years, so it's very appropriate that a prominent street be named after a prominent Hispanic to give the appropriate respect to our Hispanic community, and to reflect Dallas diversity. We don't have to stir things up by renaming an existing Dallas street like Ross.

And what hypocrisy on the part of Mayor Leppert. Does anyone remember Leppert saying that we shouldn't be naming streets after people!

As far as re-naming Farmers Market after Mr. Chavez, this move on Mr. Rasansky's part is totally hypocritical, since he is on record to have it closed down. This suggestion by Rasansky is just throwing the Hispanic community a bone, while trying to look good, which is Rasansky's typical M.O. as Pharisee, a Sad-u-cee on the council.

It is an effing street name. 375 DISD teachers get the axe, and you are bitching about a street name (one of the very worst streets in the city, I might add). Go up the Fiesta grocery store on Cesar Chavez and buy yourselves a life.

Did I not warn of this descent into shrieking madness and assorted unhappiness?

And in only 10 more days the chupacabra Trey will once again stalk the land to carry away more of our missing cabras to his hidden village of Potemkin north of Ponder, even as the creeping cowl of hair impatiently gripping the skull of the secret nahual Hinojosa finally springs to its own unnatural life and consumes him completely!

Since we're digressing merrily (where ya been, Emilio?!), I'm reminded of a not-too-bad guide to Tex-Mexican restaurant dining for gringos, wherein innocents are advised to seek out the simplest-named joints, and to stay away from places with names like "The Crazy Hats of the Three Drunken Amigos".

And to the suggestion that we name the street Juan Seguin, after the early, truly Texian (notice that spelling) vice-president of the Republic of Texas, I applaud inside while saying, "Quien? Soy graduado de DISD."
