Dallas Morning News Has a Smaller, But Better Audience Now

Categories: Media

The Audit Bureau of Circulations released its latest Monday-through-Friday circ stats this morning, and The Dallas Morning News, like most of the Top 25 dailies in the country, reported a substantial drop from the same period in 2007 -- nearly 10 percent, to 338,933 copies daily. But, far as A.H. Belo is concerned, not only was this expected, but it was also the plan all along: "The overall declines in circulation can be attributed to planned business initiatives specifically aimed at improving audience quality."

In other News news, some of the 22 newsroom staffers laid off on Friday have begun posting their farewell messages on the News Buyout blog, among them food writer Joyce Saenz Harris, who writes: "For the record, I was a senior writer in Lifestyles and the only DMN reporter on the food beat. I had been at the DMN more than 25 years, and despite being 54 and thus presumably vulnerable, this was completely unexpected." --Robert Wilonsky
