Reiner, Short & Brinker: Not a Law Firm, But a Love Fest

Last night's Carl Reiner-Martin Short showdown at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center was all a little boy raised on teevee could dream for, as Reiner recounted the creation of The Dick Van Dyke show and discussed working on Your Show of Shows while Short explained the genesis of such characters as Ed Grimley and Nathan Thurm. Both men sang and danced, and for an off-the-cuff, last-minute-ish pairing, it worked wonders -- and provided a classy kick-off for the Brinker International Forum series also scheduled to bring the likes of Hilary Swank, Ken Burns and Diana Ross to town in coming months.

But, as you can see in the photo above, the man who had the most fun was Norman Brinker, who, right, puts the "Brinker" in Brinker International Forum. It was taken in the green room following the show, where Reiner and Short kept doing their act -- which, Short said later, the two would consider taking on the road. No rehearsal necessary. --Robert Wilonsky
