• No, I think the point Ron Price was trying to make was that the district has spent a small fortune on ESL programs, but is considering removing some funding from the learning centers, which were created for the poorest of the district's students. There is indeed a great fight amongst teachers concerning the district's ESL and bilingual programs, many of which are serving students who do indeed speak English first. I think what you witnessed was a spark of frustration that will, ultimately, lead to a big fight over magnets vs. learning centers. I think Carla Ranger said it best concerning the learning centers: They were created because the district was deemed "unfair, unethical, immoral."
