Dallas Women's Foundation is "Troubled" By Results of Latest Study

The Dallas Women's Foundation today released a study that says, in short, "Women in the Dallas-Fort Worth region are more likely to live in poverty, less likely to own a home, more likely to earn less and less likely to get as far in their careers with equal education than their male peers." The 34-page document dealing with economic indicators is the first such study the 23-year-old foundation, founded by the likes of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Harryette Ehrhardt, has done since 2003's Out of the Shadows: A Portrait of Women and Girls in Dallas County. And the latest results, it says in the report's conclusions, are disturbing:
We at the Dallas Women’s Foundation are deeply troubled by the picture this study paints of women’s economic status in our community. Women are experiencing major challenges to their economic security at a disproportionate and unacceptable rate. Our community can not afford to sit by and accept this as the status quo.Becky Sykes, the foundation's executive director, says today's Economic Security report will be followed by two more in coming months to be titled, tentatively, Health & Safety and Education & Leadership. --Robert Wilonsky
