Ross is the one-and-only choice. Ross Avenue was the gathering place for the largest Human Rights march in Tecas history, in 2006 with 500,000 people. The Cathedral of Guadalupe on Ross Ave, a gathering of thousands of Hispanic parishioners every Sunday. Cesar Chavez used the Lady de Guadalupe as a symbol of peace during his movement.DISD headquarters is located on Ross Ave. Lasy year 70% of Kindergarten students in Dallas ISD were Hispanic. Cesar Chavez came to Dallas(most recent visit 1991) and rallied for the rights of ALL laborers of all ethnic groups who worked in conditions Cesar Chavez helped change. He promoted better rights and wages to workers in Texas and the Nation. Thousands of workers in Dalas grew up in working conditions that Cesar Chavez worked to to improve. In August, the mayor agreed that he would support the recommendations of the Latino city council members and asked them to cooperate with the community. It is about diversity, inclusion, respecting, and honoring Latinos and our contributions to Dallas. Preservation of a segment of Ross where the family resided as is and include a HISTORICAL MARKER IN HONOR OF THE ROSS BROTHERS IN the corner of ROss Ave. and Market. Businesses will not have buy additional letterhead, but can wait until they are ready to reorder because they will have up to a year to make address changes. We have NEVER HAD A THOROUGHFARE in Dallas honoring a Latino. Cesar Chavez is our nation leader who deserves to be honored.
that's just crazy...and wrong! why ross of all the streets in dallas? the ross name goes back so far in the city and chavez had little, if any ties to the city at all. we have the worst city government on the planet!

So what�s with the Dallas County Constable from Oak Cliff going to Ross Avenue business owners in full uniform during weekday work hours trying to get Ross Avenue business owners to sign a petition to support the street name change for Ross Avenue to Cesar Chavez Avenue? This certainly is not what Dallas County taxpayers are paying taxes for a constable to do in public while in uniform in public. This smacks of extremely poor personal judgment at the very least and may project itself as a classic case of public intimidation towards Ross Avenue business owners. As for Dallas councilman Dave Neumann, what a poor excuse of integrity and honesty does this man carry these days? First he screws up the City of Dallas public survey on this situation then as chair of the Trinity Project Committee he allows for the issue of renaming Ross Avenue to be addressed even though the renaming of Ross Avenue was not even of the agenda, what�s up with that?
Neumann deserves a special dumb ass award for wanting a public poll and then ignoring the results. I suggest renaming Jenny the elephant to Cesar Chavez the elephant

Alexis, best idea I have heard yet! It would be perfect, a signature park and something that would not affect any business or property owners! This whole thing is such a cluster. Thanks to Dave Neumann for passing the buck onto the neighborhood and property owners along Ross to defeat this asinine proposal. Shame also on Dr. Elba Garcia for allowing her husband to use her good name and reputation to further his own agenda.
I think we should name the new Woodall Rogers Deck Park after Cesar Chavez. And maybe we could offer elephant rides with Jenny in the park to help bridge some of the city's economic troubles.
has anyone reporter or citizen filed a FOIA request with the city for the records related to the idiotic naming vote that started this whole mess? What I want to know is; Who came up with the list of names? Who put up Chavez' name for the list and why? at the city meeting one of the Hispanic 'leaders' mentioned IIRC that "a deal had been made" What deal was that individual referring to? Was the vote rigged from the beginning? come Bob or Steve get working!

There is another one of those signs located at Ross & Live Oak. This is such a waste of time and money it's starting to cease being comical. I'm sure the supporters are agreeable to chipping in and covering the expenses that will be imposed on businesses for the name change. This is nothing more than further evidence that America is the greatest country in the world. I mean the fact that people have the time and energy for such useless pursuits should all make us proud of ourselves.
Why do they need to change the name of street with history? If they must have a Chaves, why not rename a street like 2nd Ave that was not named after a historic Dallas founding father.
How about renaming Ross Avenue "Jenny The Elephant Street?" At least Jenny spent some time in Dallas.

We just came back from a vacation in Chicago where they have street signs that say "Honorary Street Name" underneath the real street name. Why can't we have that?
