Before we scoot for the long holiday weekend, during which we'll likely post an item just because, we snagged that Lily Tomlin public service announcement for sharing. And, sure, while we're all suffering Jenny fatigue -- though Pete promises something mighty special next week having to do with "Jenny's Song" -- anyone who starred with Tom Waits in Short Cuts and Steve Martin in All of Me merits the Unfair Park Special Exemption. --Robert Wilonsky

The place in Mexico is fantastic compared to the Tennessee "sanctuary." She would at the very least get superb veterinary care in Mexico compared to the lack there of in TN.

National Geographic shows photos of elephants sleeping,not standing,but laying on their sides. That's when they are without stress. Relaxed is the way our elephants should live,as should ourselves.
I think Cathy needs a job, or perhaps a child that likes soccer. Regarding the pachydoym, i'll gladly "put her down" if i'm allowed the choicest cuts.
BM- We won't stop talking, singing, bloging, emailing, writing, calling, signing and submiting petitions,holding demonstrations, handing out stickers and fliers, attending city council meetings... etc. We will continue to educate ourselves and others. All this for Jenny the elephant you and others have little or no regard for. We won't shut up!
Robert- thanks to the link to Jenny's song. Hate it, love it, doesn't matter to me. The fact is that people are visiting and hearing about Jenny. Over 2000 in 2.5 days since the first CBS interview. I have never been involved with an animal cause, but an elephant experience in Mexico gave me nightmares for 8 years. I first came to know Jenny through researching what this was all about. I would shave my head with a cheese grater while chewing on tin foil if it would get some attention for Jenny. Thank you Lily. I know you don't have to do this. That is what people don't get. SHUT UP - it's an elephant. If she's that miserable, pump a slug into her and get it over with. I'm tired of hearing about this damn elephant!
See - that's the thing. The sanctuary wants to take Jenny - they will transport her in their specialized elephant out-fitted tranporter - in which they have moved almost 20 elephants over the years with no problems whatsoever. There is NO COST to Dallas taxpayers to move Jenny to Tennessee. There will be NO CHARGE to taxpayers for her care for the remainder of her life. The cost to care for an elephant in a zoo is $125,000 a year. Two elephants - $250,000 EACH YEAR. Four elephants, as is being discussed, half a million dollars EACH YEAR. The Dallas Zoo has considered closing one day a week now because they have financial problems. You understand why Concerned Citizens for Jenny are skeptical of Mr. Hudson and the Zoological Society? A wonderful facility wants to move this poor animal to a place where she will be loved and cared for the remainder of her life. It will cost the taxpayers nothing and Jenny will have a few years of care and peace. Hudson wants to keep her here and (eureka!) add more elephants - at a cost to the taxpayers of $125,000 per animal - per year. What could possibly be the rationale behind this? Jenny will continue to suffer and will die in misery, the taxpayers will be gouged (needlessly), thousands of people locally and across the globe will continue to wonder what could possibly be wrong with the "management" of this city - that this suffering animal has not already been moved - but ladies and gentleman - Mr. Gregg Hudson and the Zoological Society (drum roll) will have by-God shown those crazy animal advocates who runs the show!
Wow, Well, no matter which side of this thing you're on, Tomlin has posted a lucid case promoting the Elephant Sanctuary. I'd love for the Dallas Zoo to have an elephant exhibit, but perhaps this really IS best for the animal... My questions remain about the Zoo's silence/ineptitude/bungling on the whole Jenny affair with Mexico, and I guess we should follow some sort of money trail to see if there was an exchange of sorts, money for elephant, sort of a live-animal 'bagging'. Send the poor girl to Tennessee, put up a fund for her retirement (the sanctuary can't be free, can it?), and let's rethink this whole zoo thing. I want one, but unless it's a 5-star facility, then anything less might fall in to the realm of animal abuse.
