Hey, Dallas, What's Important to You?
Dunno? Well, let's find out, courtesy CNN, which was in town this week to meet and greet a most interesting assemblage of folks hanging out in front of City Hall. --Robert Wilonsky

Odd how McCain is only a few points behind Obama in the polls, and Dallas is heavily conservative, but every one of those people seemed like Obama voters. I'm surprised they didn't throw in a couple of snake-handling, Bible-thumping fundamentalists or inbred, low-IQ neo-Nazis to "fairly" represent the McCain supporters. Oh well, it's CNN, whaddya expect?

Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 7 2008 @ 3:12PMI only know one person who has said they're voting for McCain. Maybe Obama is more popular here than what you'd expect.

Smoking bans, bloated public projects, citizens demanding that streets be named after a union leader, republican mayors who cease campaign contributions when they decide to run in a non-partisan election, a shiny new homeless assistance facility, a school district/transit authority/housing authority that can't manage revenue and expenses....but if you want to call it conservative, go ahead.
Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 7 2008 @ 3:21PMROB,
Dallas County isn't heavy conservative. We actually voted Democrat in the last major election in 2006 and it was almost even in 2004. I've got 20 bucks that says Obama beats McCain in Dallas County in 08.
Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 7 2008 @ 3:27PMNathan, I was referring to the voters, not the bozos that run the city. In Presidential elections, Dallas County usually votes Republican.

Geez, that's some "Deep Thoughts" there Jack Handy!
Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 7 2008 @ 3:41PMchris, I agree that it's possible that Obama will take Dallas County. Everyone is pissed off at Bush, even most conservatives, McCain's campaign alternates between comatose and spastic, and the media really want Obama to win. Then again, the national polls so far show it as a pretty close race (which is why it seems a little suspicious that CNN couldn't find any McCain supporters out of that many people), so who knows.
Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 7 2008 @ 3:51PMNathan,
Those bloated public works projects are bought and paid for by the nations biggest GOP donors.
Chris,
Dallas County will vote Democratic in 2008, -IC, you sound like effing Pete Sessions when you leave off the 'IC'

Maybe they couldn't find anyone to get excited to vote for a guy who has relegated himself to debating Paris Hilton.

I was trying to represent and all...but
Bible Girl borrowed my snakes and never gave them back and my uncle/brother couldn't drive me down there.
Jack, I don't even want to think about what Bible Girl is doing with your snakes, especially that freak one with two heads.

I referred to conservatism, not the GOP. Apparently these days there's a big difference.

Really? Did you happen see the 2006 mid terms? A lot of Republicans lost their jobs braniac. And if Dallas county was to decide the governors race we would have a Democratic Gov.
Stop embarrassing yourself bro, read a little.
Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 7 2008 @ 8:35PMPolitical party affiliations aside: People in Dallas always THINK they aren't conservative until they're around actual liberals in a more progressive city.
You know....like Sheboygan!
