Alex Jones Sics His Followers on The News, Demands Retraction

Alex Jones

Dallas-born, Austin-based Alex Jones -- the gravely voiced conspiracy theorist behind Infowars and this interview with Mark Stepnoski -- has turned his attention toward Dallas' Only Daily, which, he insists, libeled him yesterday in a posting by WBAP-AM (820)'s Mark Davis. Davis, who contributes to the paper's op-ed page, is sending in regular dispatches from the Democratic National Convention in Denver, and yesterday The Dallas Morning News' Mike Hashimoto posted a piece in which Davis reported that Jones confronted conservative columnist Michelle Malkin during a protest and shouted, "Kill Michelle Malkin!" Wrote Davis:

In shouting 'Kill Michelle Malkin!' at a protest yesterday, he reveals himself to be not just a dismissible loon, but a despicable soul whom I would identify as a blight on my industry if I actually considered him to be a part of it.
Only, Jones' site says he did no such thing and that the posting's just "a neocon dirty trick." This morning, he's posted two videos of the confrontation and is demanding his fans and followers phone the paper to demand, at the very least, a retraction. If nothing else, it should be tons of fun answering phones on Young Street today. --Robert Wilonsky

The video is up on a bunch of websites, AJ. What's next, is he going to claim that it was faked by the same outfit that did the moon landing footage?

Did any reader of the DMN actually see let alone read that op-ed? It should be fairly easy to track down the three folks that actually still subscribe!

Well, I didn't read it. Didn't see my Briefing today for that matter. Did it go under already?

I'm as anti-neocon as anybody, but I also consider Alex Jones "to be not just a dismissible loondismissible loon, but a despicable soul"

Dallas, Alex Jones..

Alex Jones, Dallas..

People up here dont know much about alex, as he's been a wacky staple in austin for years. I loved his old cable access show as he came up with all these crazy theories about the Black Helicopters harassing his parents or how central texas was about to be taken over by the UN....

Citizen Polack says:

I knew Dallas was chock full of Ultra-Conservatives (and/or Neo-Conservatives) but I'm a little saddened to see so many folks rush to Davis and Malkin's defense. Esp. Malkin, as she's in running for the female Bill O'Reilly position.

There is another easily-found video that shows the actual screamers of the phrase 'Kill Michelle Malkin!' and it wasn't Alex Jones or anyone affiliated with him. It was actually a couple of "zany" guys that looked like they'd fit right-in at the Greenville Avenue St. Patricks's day Parade.

Coincidence or not!?!

But what are you going to do?...it's a One Paper/Hive-mind kind of town.

Gumpy Deacon says:

Mike Hashimoto says the post has been removed, but doesn't provide a retraction or any information. Looks like he's covering for his buddy Davis, great journalistic ethics, no retraction no nothing.

For fun check out the the comments to most of Davis' posting, the villagers are none to happy with Davis. One of them has strated a contest of "Write Your Own Mark Davis blog of the Obama speech."

Michelle Malkin makes my skin crawl, but after watching that video of Alex Jones yelling at her, I might actually find myself agreeing with Mark Davis for the very first time.

Im not the biggest fan of Mark Davis, but for once, he and I are on the same page when it comes to Alex Jones. Im normally a free-speech supporter no matter the stripes, but Alex Jones is a total loon with an axe to grind. When you primary audience tunes in to listen to you as a lead up to "Coast To Coast AM", you know theres problems.

rob frost says:

Yes, he was angrily confronting Malkin... but you have to be VERY careful when you print in a professional publication that he called for someone's MURDER.

Especially when the entire exchange is on Youtube. Here's a link that gives a good idea of what was and wasn't said.

Liles says:

That idiot Alex Jones is standing behind MSNBC's news desk right now screaming "9/11 is an inside job!" over and over again through a bullhorn. The crowd standing around him is about to beat him senseless with his Obama signs.

Good television, for sure.

Erich Scholz says:

I like Alex Jones...he's a very entertaining communicator and his politics are interesting to say the least. His 9/11 Truth movement seems to make more people mad than the actual collapse of the Twin Towers.

Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 28 2008 @ 5:05PM
Jack Jett says:

Liles

Is that him in the background disrupting the Chris Matthews Show? If so, he is now the wind beneath my wings. It is then a clear case of douchebaggery vs assholery.

Even better, now he is disrupting Rev Alice Sharpton. Oh where is Tucker Carlson when you need him.

Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 28 2008 @ 5:48PM
Citizen Polack says:

Mr. Liles I mean no offense esp. considering the fact that you're one of the people that put Deep Ellum on the map, but how exactly is Alex Jones an idiot?

He's got the "cajones" to regularly express very-unpopular opinions (at least they're unpopular in polite company) that just so happen to be quite often loaded with verifiable truth.

Sure he get's a little worked-up but when I look around only to see more of the "living dead" without an original thought in their heads endlessly buying whatever they're being told/sold I get a little worked-up as well.

But I know he's one of those "conspiracy" guys and we all know the power that word has to instantly discredit anyone or any idea.

I rest comfortably every night knowing that the "Magic Bullet Theory" had EVERYONE snowed for my entire lifetime. Way to roll over on that one folks!!

Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 28 2008 @ 6:06PM
Liles says:

First of all, Jones is at the wrong convention. If what he says is actually true, he needs to be standing outside of the GOP Convention.

Second, Jones isn't a conspiracy theorist, he is a conspiracy promoter. He clearly doesn't have ready access to the tools needed to do a proper investigation of his own, so he is basically repeating secondhand information. Over and over and over and over again. His message is not an "original" thought.

Lastly, and most importantly, today marks a historical event in all of our lives. For Jones to bleat "9/11 is an inside job!" on a bullhorn over a hundred times during MSNBC's coverage of Obama's speech is both insensitive and counterintuitive. It just shows bad form.

If this was the GOP Convention, I would be having a good laugh about Jones and his bullhorn. After all, 9/11 happened on the Republican's watch. To use the day of Obama's speech to leverage an opinion about 9/11 is just inane.

Doug in DFW says:

Mark Davis discovers journalism is hard work!

Liles, I think the Republicans will exert more control over their stage show. Back to Mark Davis, to lose face to a "total loon", wow. Good thing there's no shame in Davis' game. I'm sure he'll be brought to tears next week at the RNC. Robert, since we are down one Watchdog in DFW, please follow up on any on-air Mark Davis ranting or DMN protests.

Posted On: Thursday, Aug. 28 2008 @ 8:01PM
Steven R says:

I think it's fair game that he ran that half pint Nazi off the street.

Bill O'Reilly invites people onto his show, then berates and belittles them and even turns off their mics and he gets higher ratings. Alex Jones makes a scene with a bullhorn and he's a nutcase.

Don't get me wrong. He IS a nutcase. But so is O'Reilly and he pulls down tall cash for it. The guy's just trying to build an audience. I mean, we all have to start somewhere.

And GOD, don't get me started on Mark Davis. I don't usually read the DMN op-ed page for the same reason that I read the Observer, but as I pass by it on my way to Metro, if I see Davis or Malkin's byline, I have to admit to a morbid curiosity that draws me in to read the first few lines. I think it's the same kind of thing that makes us slow down at wrecks. And every time, I never get farther than those first few lines.

And he calls Alex a blight on his industry? What industry would that be, the Carny Huckster Industry?

But Liles is right that Alex should have saved his rage for the GOP. The last time people jacked around with the Democratic National Convention, we ended up with five and a half years of Richard Nixon. Counterintuitive doesn't begin to cover it.

Liles and Steven R. :

If you still believe in the Dog-and-Pony show of a "Democracy" and it's "Presidential Elections" then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I respect your opnions but I think you watch too much CNN or Faux News.

CodeWarriorz says:

Regardless of what people think of Alex Jones, he either SAID "Kill Michelle Malkin" or he didn't, and the videotape shows he didn't

Mr. Davis either did or didn't say that
Mr. Jones said that, and apparently from
mhasimoto@dallasnews.com , Mr. Davis did make the allegation.

So, false defamatory speech which may cause damage to the reputation of the person defamed, or if Mr. Jones sustains damages by loss of revenue for his websites, would usually be the sine qua non elements of a legal libel action.

The question is not whether you think Jones is a nut or not on other issues, but whether the Dallas Morning News allowed to be published, libelous statements about Mr. Jones. The evidence strongly suggests, including the language of Mr. Hashimoto's take down notice, that what Davis said was in fact, UNTRUE, and it certainly was defamatory...ipso facto, you don't have to be Gerry Spence to figure out there may be a juicy libel lawsuit in the wings.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend one and all.

So there's guy *right* behind him chanting loud as hell "Kill Michelle Malkin" and it doesn't occur to him to tell him to shut the fuck up? Even if he didn't say it, he inspired it, condoned it and continued his idiot ranting in the very tone in tune with the clown who did the chants for murder.

Mark Davis you are a scumball!!
I have listened to Alex Jones the past year and
you are so uninformed of the real news (or just evil) and what is going on worldwide. Alex is one of the gutsiest people I know and many Americans have no idea what is coming and how he is trying to protect your country from the evil that is on its way.
May God help you!A person like Alex is an inspiration to me and what a loss when people are so influenced by lies and deception. I shudder to think where your eyes will be when you are confronted by your Maker.
Instead of making a difference and preparing the population, you will be part of the disaster. Shame on you. Do you have the guts to actually watch and look at his website www.infowars.com
