Race the Sun

Categories: News

ABC News reminds us this morning of the North American Solar Challenge that revs up on July 13 -- a sort of 10-day solar-powered Cannonball Run that will find 25 collegiate teams racing from Plano to Calgary, which measures some 2,400 miles. Notes the story:

What began as a modest display of solar energy's potential has turned into a showcase for the rapidly developing technology. For example, the first winner in 1990 averaged 25 mph, but the latest champion averaged more than 60 mph.
That's because last year's winner didn't have Dom DeLuise slowing him down. --Robert Wilonsky
