Cards to Keep Cowboys Fans Out, While FC Dallas Gets an Olympian

FC Dallas's Dax McCarty

A couple of sports notes this morning. First, out of Arizona comes word that the Cardinals are going to "Protect the Nest" this season by keeping Dallas Cowboys fans outta University of Phoenix Stadium. That is, if Cowboys fans -- who, historically, fill up Arizona games and tend to mute the home crowd -- want to see the game against the Cardinals on October 12, they'll also have to buy ducats to the August 7 pre-season opener against the New Orleans Saints. Says Cards PR VP, "I don't think it's unfair." Actually, it's kinda brilliant.

Also, word this morning is there's another local to root for at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics: FC Dallas' midfielder Dax McCarty, who'll replace Real Salt Lake’s injured Nathan Sturgis on the U.S. Soccer squad. McCarty will join the likes of Freddy Adu and Patrick Ianni in California this morning before they travel to China for the Games. Notes U.S. Soccer's announcement this a.m.: "McCarty was a key part of the squad’s successful run through Olympic Qualifying in March, playing in four games, starting three and racking up 270 minutes." --Robert Wilonsky
