7-Eleven Looking to Fill Every Square Inch of North Texas, Thank Heavens

• This makes no sense. In my part of town, they shutdown half the 7-11s about 6-7 years ago. Now QT and RaceTrack both have invaded and I think QT has a better story than 7-11.

• You think 7-Elevens are ubiquitous here, try venturing to Winnipeg... the Slurpee Capital of the World.

• A friend encouraged me to move to a place that has a 7-11 within walking distance. Slurpee's, chips, pints of Ben and Jerry's all seemed like fun, until I moved into my place. Lots of homeless folks lounging outside, weird types walking in front of my house, Big Gulp's in hand. I went on a diet shortly after moving in and rarely go to 7-11, unless I need a bottle of water for the gym. Kinda hate it, although I think my neighborhood is just plain dicey....

• Anony Mouse - thank you! How could they close the Knox/Travis location, right off the Katy Trail, where all us hikers, bikers and runners went for a post-trail treat.

• Coffee is definitely better at 7-11. Dark Mountain Roast. Mmm.

• Fuck Starbucks! 711 is where it'at. The coffee's better and there's beer and girly mags.

• The Lakewood Texaco is more fun - a true microcosm and a good show for the line at York Street. But my question is what do we do with all these corner banks when they go under?

• I think 711 aleady passed the 300 mark for the number of complete meals they have fashioned into tacquito form.

• What's funny here is that back the early-nid 80's, when the DFW area had no more than half the people it has now, Southland Corp. sent out a press release touting the opening of the 300th 7-11 in Dallas County. There were another 100 or so in Tarrant County at the time.

• I'm with you, Robert, regarding Grant McCracken's comment. 7-11 is what it is. It's all about convenience. If it's 3am or even 3pm and you just need to get some little something and you don't want to (or don't have time to) park a half-mile away and wait in line at the grocery store, 7-11's your place. That having been said, I rarely avail myself of their services.

• It's going to be a nine-floor residential development with commercial development below, I believe. Too bad for the neighborhood in terms of a commercial spot you can walk to and purchase odds and ends (read: beer). Good for the neighborhood in terms of aesthetics, I suppose...

• I have a suggestion: How about that location on the intersection of Knox and Travis?
