Mayor Tom, Rural Juror

Yesterday, during a three-way with Mayors Bill White of Houston and Hardberger of San Antonio during the 2008 State Bar Annual Meeting in Houston, Tom Leppert said a good hunk of the state's education problems stems from the way the legislature doles out its dollars. Notes the Houston Chronicle, "Leppert said part of the problem is that the Legislature still has a rural emphasis when 60 percent of the economy is in the three cities represented on stage." (Couldn't have anything to do with the way some districts spend and account for their money, could it? Nah.) Not sure what Leppert said specifically, as one graf down the story notes, "Leppert bragged about the interstate highways, runways and the infrastructure in Dallas." I do the exact same thing when I go out of town. --Robert Wilonsky
