From Belleview Place, the winning design for the Cedars in the Urban Land Institute competition

In January, we mentioned that the Urban Land Institute annual Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition was using Dallas's very own Cedars neighborhood as the site of its contest. Well, the competition's come and gone -- in April, a team from the University of Pennsylvania won with its plan for integrating the Cedars into downtown -- but one of the myriad contestants today posted his team's homework to his blog, and it makes for an interesting read. Rob Goodspeed (any relation to Stanley?) offers his team's suggestions for how to reconnect, rethink and renew the neighborhood -- using everything from "a new amphitheater in the Old City Park" to "a magnet arts middle school" to "a restaurant and craft brewpub [that] would serve as a hub of activity at the Cedars DART Station." --Robert Wilonsky
