Whatever You Do, Don't Sip the Water of Life. It's Really Crazy Juice.

Doyle Davidson

My in-box has been filling up of late with messages concerning the most bizarre, fascinating love-hate story I’ve ever come across: the passion of preacher Doyle Davidson for his so-called “wife,” Lisa Staton, about whom we've written plenty over the last couple of years. Still, the story grows even stranger with things like, oh, demons cast out on air, women prancing around the pulpit in pink ballet slippers and Davidson’s death threats to Lisa’s real husband. “Everybody is saying, ‘Where’s the Kool-Aid?’” says one former member. YouTube is filled with videos of Davidson's sermons.

Davidson’s Plano church, Water of Life, came under scrutiny in the tragic case of Dena Schlosser, a church member who cut off her baby’s arms while in a psychotic state, influenced in part by the preacher’s rantings about the devil and demonic spirits. Since the Schlosser trial in 2006, Davidson’s following has dwindled. Protests from viewers have gotten his broadcasts kicked off four stations. (His nutty preaching airs in Dallas on KLDT-Channel 55, which is based in Lewisville.)

For years, Davidson has preached in the pulpit and on TV about God giving him Lisa as a wife. Problem is, Lisa is already married to J.R. Staton and, after a torrid affair with Davidson, wants nothing more to do with him. The couple has been in hiding for several years. Which hasn't stopped Davidson from posting such messages as, "You need to humble yourself and know that I have authority to deal with you, and I will."

With the help of members of his congregation, Davidson found the Statons this spring, prompting a ludicrous confrontation in a Richardson parking lot, all chronicled in his regular “Messages for Lisa," which was last updated on Saturday. Here are a few postings from March:

News for Lisa D

I just returned with Kathy Currier [a new Water of Life minister] from Richardson where JR and Lisa called the Richardson Police and they and the hotel security people informed me if I came back I would be arrested.

Kathy and I were setting on the parking lot praying…Lisa came and blocked my car so I could not drive away and called the police. She and JR told the police I was stalking her. Kathy and I had not said a word to her or JR. We were setting on the Homestead Hotel parking lot located on East Campbell in Richardson. I will be talking to management about this situation on Monday…

Lisa,

I did not want to write these words, but I know I must: You looked terrible, face swollen and even fat. I could not tell for sure, but you looked overweight and most certainly dirty. That is what sin will do. I know the spirit in JR wants to kill you. I will not let that happen. I have the faith and authority to deliver you. JR, as we talked tonight, you insisted on knowing who told me where you lived. Well, God led Terry and Kathy Mai [his daughter and son-in-law] to the place you live, and they recognized Lisa's car that I paid for and your pickup, and as you say the rest is history.

I know where you live, Lisa. Marvelous, Marvelous, Marvelous.

Good night,

Doyle

Davidson's new obsession: John, a child he is meant to have with Mrs. Staton. (Neither the Statons or Davidson returned e-mails.) You can’t make this stuff up. --Glenna Whitley

Wow... I certainly hope they've since changed locales, since Lisa Staton's address is now definitely all over the Internet.

When nothing else is on, I find myself watching these broadcasts.

I am always struck at how normal these people look. Aside from the jumping in the air and hand wringing, perfectly normal.

Brother Russell says:

This would all be funny, if there weren't children involved. But on several occasions I have watched Doyle Davidson's insane broadcast and seen children sitting there in the congregation, and there are minors in his little orchestra. They all look shell-shocked and exhausted, and they are subjected to exorcisms being performed on adults sitting right next to them. It amazes me that people in Plano let this abuse keep going on, right in their backyard.

Lakewooder says:

A psychotic, charismatic preacher. Hmmm, now that’s a first.

Jack Jett says:

Can anyone go and sit in the audience?

I don't want to go on the day they cut childrens arms off. However, I do like to go up and pretend to be saved and then get a good squeeze of the preachers ass. It makes for a win win situation for everyone.

I use to have some lesbian friends that would go that televised christian fiasco out in Irving. They would pretend to be sisters and go up front to the preacher and tell him they Satan had taken over their lives. Then as people would begin to pray for them, they would start making out.
I think I have it on tape somewhere.

This place sounds like a good location to do a Improv Everywhere action.

Tom L says:

So have the Statons filed a restraining order against him yet?

Jack Jett says:

I watched WATER OF LIFE last night while channel surfing.

If you get a chance, you have to see this show that is a combination of the Paula Abdul reality show and a Carrot Top concert with a dab of RuPaul.

This show deserves an Emmy. Bible Girl would be creamin' in her Jordache jeans.

Thanks Glenna for getting another story out there exposing crazy Doyle Davidson. I think he is dangerous on many levels. I hate that I see children & teens forced to subjected to him night after night. I think Doyle could be a hair away from escalating into violence as often as he has threatened death & destruction on Jr., Lisa, & others… namely the Plano police. He is even telling his followers that he just a couple of days a go raised a man from the dead on a Plano bike trail. He said Plano fire department was on the scene. I wish the fire department would speak out & expose at least that lie. Keep up the good writing & hopefully blind eyes will be opened & no one else will be hurt or deceived by this lunatic.

Saddened says:

It is very sad to watch this stuff and see the small children and teens in the audience although small. Nothing in this place depicts the love of Christ.

If you really want to see the nutty stuff, watch it live on their internet site. Some of the really crazy stuff never gets to the TV program a week later. For instance, he uses the "C..Sh.." word last night and laughs about it. Many times he has had too much to drink.

Entertaining but very sad.

Boyd Miller says:

It would appear to me that the prisoners at gitmo are having a better time than the zombies at WOL. If the gov. was to make a prisoner walk and hop for 45 min. each night the ACLU would bring suit. If I were an undergraduate needing a thesis topic or study this would be great. What we have here is a personality cult, broadcast daily for our observation.

FLEECED says:

Hey folks:
It's true: if you simply watch his TV show, it's pretty much rated "PG"- he has to watch his language, since his cussing got him kicked off so many tv stations. If you want to see him as his real stuoid hateful self, go to his website, click on Live Broadcast archives, and watch one of those. Sundays and Weds are boring, since those are being taped for broadcast. Watch him when he's juiced up on another night, like, say.... Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and a great night is Friday... must be Boone's Farm On Sale night at the local Tom Thumb grocery store: two gallons for two dollars!
Yeh, this dude is making death threats against people, saying he has people "inside his crosshairs" and making gun sounds, pointing his finger at the camera like a gun. Loooneeeeeyyyy tunes.
What a jerk.

i am not lisa davidson says:

Glenna:
Now that a family in Plano (members of Custer Road United Methodist Church) died in a car accident, Doyle is calling them "evil" and "wicked" people. He also criticized the Hart Family (who are white) for taking in two black children and giving them foster care. Doyle said "God didn't like it"- and therefore that is why the children died.
Doyle said that whoever worked for foster care that placed the black children with the white foster parents "has the children's blood on their hands".
I would love to know what Custer Road UMC would think of Doyle Davidson's whacko remarks!
Now that Doyle Davidson is "spitting up blood"- (his own words) wonder what's up with him? Aside from him losing what mind he has left.
To watch this garbage, go to www.doyledavidson.com. Go to "Live Broadcasts" on his site. Scroll down until you see the show from last night, "Monday June 23rd". At first, a woman is talking. Then about 28 minutes into the show, Davidson states that "as far as I know, I don't have a drop of black blood in my family"... then the psycho ride begins. Glenna, please keep investigating this man!
Nope,
I AM NOT LISA DAVIDSON
