So, the Bushes Are "Househunting"?

Mon May 05, 2008 at 01:24:07 PM

According to the New York Daily News today, President Bush ain't none too happy with the housing prices in his once and future hometown. Notes Tom DeFrank on the paper's D.C. blog, George W. has ...

... been muttering about the spike in real estate prices in Dallas since he and Laura sold their house in North Dallas and moved to the Governor’s Mansion in Austin in 1995. The First Lady was in Dallas last month for some discreet househunting, and her report back wasn’t comforting about what it will cost to keep a former president in semi-retired style. “The housing slump hasn’t reached Dallas yet,” he’s been ruefully reporting to sympathetic associates.

Maybe they can get a good deal on one of Saddam's old palaces. Mission accomplished!
But only if they're in the market for a fixer-upper.

Spectator says:

I can see it now. The Highland Park cops hassling and harassing the Secret Service detail for burnt-out taillights and driving cars that weren't made overseas.

Parker says:

Um, I believe the greater Texomaland region is to be affectionately referred to as the "Retroplex." Get with the times, Robert.

Also, Denison only has one 'n'. IJS.

Duly noted on both counts, thanks.

I'd suggest the area around:

4500 South Lancaster Road
Dallas, TX 75216

wobert rilonsky says:

I predict a Park City's address.

He won't want to screw with the DPD or City of Dallas over security and zoning.

The UP and HP police departments and City Councils will be much more friendly towards what he wants to do.

I also predict the newly constructed house on Beverly near Hillcrest with the underground bunker...err ummm parking garage as his new residence.

cp says:

Why are they crying poor-mouth??? Did they expect a modest $500,000K bungalow on the M-streets??? Besides, all the "cheap" property in HP is on the west side of the tollway and they wouldn't be caught dead living that close to Lemmon Ave.

Really, is it any surprise to them that home prices have risen in the last 10 years? Do they know do anything about the economy???????? I'll chip in for a subscription to Business Week- maybe Laura can read bedtime stories to her hubby. Just that, seems a little too late for that, I'm afraid.

He's been living rent-free for years, for pete's sake--surely he can cough up for a nice house with the money he saved on overhead expenses.

Zelda Rose says:

Hey George, I know a place that has lots of fixer-uppers in lakefront neighborhoods, near lots of Republicans who'd love to show you their gratitude for eight years of running the country.

It's called Lakeshore, New Orleans, LA.

4500 lancaster rd? LMFAO!

billh, I salute you sir-best laugh I've had all day!

raymond massey says:

How about Leavenworth?

billh says:

why thank you. I think he'd find it...inspiring. Oh, and it's near a dart station.
