Fifty years ago, Pizza Inn opened its first eatery right across the street from the SMU campus; and, far as I was concerned 'round about the time I was about 8, the long-gone location at Forest and Marsh lanes proffered the best pie in the entire universe. Well, comes word today that Bahrain is about to get its own slice of the Dallas-based chain, courtesy the Attyab Al Bahrain Catering Company and Eastern Retail Services Company W.L.L. -- which, says here, are owned by the Sheikh Terki Al Khalifa Group of Companies, which you probably already knew. Twenty new locations will pop up in Bahrain over the next 10 years. Just in time for the Feast of the Sacrifice, which starts on the 10th of Zilhajjah. --Robert Wilonsky

Peterk says:
Bahrain is not nearly as restrictive as its neighbor Saudi Arabia. Western expats would drive across the causeway from Khobar to Bahrain on the weekends returning with the other white meat sitting in their trunks waiting to be cooked back in the compounds
Mike says:
On my first day visiting Cairo I got lost walking around and somehow came upon a Fuddruckers, which I didn't even know they had outside of Texas.
Gonzo says:
We franchise our Bennigan's and Ponderosa brands in Bahrain (as well as Qatar, Dubai and Kuwait). At B's, we use beef bacon instead of pork. We, Chili's and Fudd's all serve alcohol, I think...since we're near the American base. In the 'native' areas of the island, I think alcohol and pork are forbidden except in hotel restaurants.

I wonder if they'll be allowed to offer infidel toppings like sausage, bacon, and ham?
