Ranger Danger: DISD Trustee Suggests Altering Board Policies

Fri Apr 25, 2008 at 01:05:49 PM
DISD school board trustee Carla Ranger

As mentioned below, at last night's meeting of the Dallas Independent School District's board of trustees, Carla Ranger delivered a speech in which she questioned the ethics of board president Jack Lowe, whose company, it was revealed last weekend, has received some $10 million in district contracts since 2002. After the meeting, Ranger gave Daniel Rodrigue, our new intern and Unfair Park contributor, a copy of her speech, which we're making available in full for those so interested Ranger's proposal that the board alter its policy allowing the district to do business with a company in which the board president has a financial interest. And, yes, those are her edits, not ours. --Robert Wilonsky

So a Conflict of Interests ceases to be a Conflict of Interests when we stop calling it a Conflict of Interests? We're learning some very important lessons here from the Ogliarchs who currently run this what-until-recently-passed-for-a-country.

Steve says:

Ms. Ranger is correct and the board knows it and has known it. For Mr. Lowe to say that he was elected to an office he doesn't have time for unless he's making money off of the district is an admittance that mooney was the only reason Lowe ran for the board in the first place. Should donors to non-profits be allowed to garner business because of a large contribution? When the donor signs the statement that they have "received nothing of value" for their donation and then receives millions in contracts, then they have violated the spirit of the IRS Rules if not the law.Robert Riggs was on to exposing UT Southwestern and then he gets the axe? Money talks for CBS and UT Southwestern and neither was willing to lose financial gain for Riggs' stories of misuse of donor dollars by the university president,Dr. Kern Wildenthal.Be careful Ms. Ranger.
