Before and After at 2505 Turtle Creek

• @Bjorn Dallas wants to be a place that isn't a slave to saving crap that is crap for the sake of the fact that it's old crap. I agree Dallas doesn't have much of a voice - but what voice it does needs the go out in the trash by anyone willing to foot the bill.

• "Old" doesn't mean "historical." You would think they tore down the freaking Alamo over the weekend. By all means, let's never tear down another building again so we can look like downtown Detroit in another 20 years.

• Un didn't somebody tell y'all?? This is a BLOG...not a FORUM.

• It isn't so much what was torn down but how Dallas does this. Dallas never has a good plan and really wants to be Houston to me. Just keep building the same thing till something cheaper/plainer/frencher/more European can be covered in EIFS in its place. Dallas is removing its culture so fast that it no longer has a real identity. What does Dallas want to be? Losing a building as careful and interesting as this is sore and makes Dallas a less interesting place to live. There is nothing interesting to most towers along Turtle Creek and the new one here won't be any better. As long as the developers put something in the site that is worth looking at and not some French-inspired mess (see Turtle Creek and Lemmon), it might be ok. Another homogonized Victory Park will not really make this site better. We need to revise our zoning and develop laws into something that makes sense. Willy-nilly is not the way to develop a city. Dallas never follows through on anything anyways, it is always a half-hearted attempt at development. Thank you to the corrupt city council for this one. Angela Hunt where are you?

• not every building can be saved... but if you read Sunday's DMN front page story about the building... and Unfair Park's reporting on it's demolition.... well then you know that this one was just plain underhanded, and a slap in the face to that neighborhood.... and it happens all the time, all over Dallas... just drive down Gaston, and then drive down Swiss... Gaston used to look just like Swiss, REALLY!!

• JB - it was the 'Fare'. even though the marquee had a carnival tent, which would have implied 'fair'. so glad I could make an intellectual contribution today.

• I'm wondering why there is no uproar about "The Fair" being torn down last week on Greenville Ave. and some kind of new construction on that property. I have many more mammaries, uh, I mean 'memories' of that place than 2505 Turtle Creek.

• Well, It is, or rather, was, important to people like me who have lived in Dallas forever and a day. The story behind the building is what makes it special, not just the building itself. Dallas has a real problem with not being able to preserve the few buildings of noteworthiness that we have. There should be a balance between development and preservation, and Dallas way is off balance. Not every building can be saved, but this one should have been. There are still some people left in this town who think this sort of thing is just plain wrong..... and we have very long memories!

• It looked like the same crappy Brady-style professional building I grew up with in Milwaukee. Nothing lost here.
