AFI Dallas: A Post-Fest Standing O

Two glowing AFI Dallas International Film Festival wrap-ups this morning, from outside sources -- hence, both pieces' referring to fest CEO Michael Cain as, ah, "Michael Caine." First up is indieWIRE, which covers the film-fest circuit better than any online or paper publication: "Given the density of the program and the ambitiousness of applying the AFI label to yet another film festival (following Los Angeles' AFI Fest and Maryland's Silverdocs), AFI Dallas does appear to carry a weight beyond its years." And it points out that AFI Dallas did indeed land its first acquisition, though a small one: After its Dallas debut Disfigured found a home at Cinema Libre.

Cinematical also has kind words for the festival -- especially for how it handled getting filmmakers and other outta-towners to and fro the widely scattered venues. Also, give yourself a round of applause: "Dallas is a friendly town, and the folks who live there have embraced the AFI Dallas Film Festival with open arms." --Robert Wilonsky
