New Toadies (?) and Old "Incense"

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 04:09:22 PM

A couple of musical notes, beginning with something posted over on DC9 at Night -- two surreptitiously shot videos from someone going by the moniker TOADIESsuperfan. Seems the feller had himself a run-in with the Toadies, who, sez Kirtland Records' Tami Thomsen in the comments, are rehearsing for some June dates forthcoming any second now, really, on the band's MySpace page. Of course, what's gotten folks so excited about the two clips is that they seem to suggest the band's working on some new material.

Over at the FrontBurner, you'll find recounted a funny story involving Rubber Gloves' owner Josh Baish. But speaking of the olds, after the jump is a rather nifty blast from the past just posted to the YouTube: a clip of golden-oldie Dallas band Southwest F.O.B. performing its hit cover of West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band's "Smell of Incense" on Houston TV, circa 1968. And, yes, that is the local band in which England Dan and John Ford Coley got their start. --Robert Wilonsky

New Toadies? Please be true.

Faith says:

The Toadies' new shows announced in June has me excited, but new music too?! That would be a dream come true!

chris says:

Dudes, the Toadies are done. Cooked. Washed up. Get over it.

jamal says:

chris-

over. kaput. sure thing. yep. whatever you say. you da man.

bitch please.

chris says:

Jamal,

Newsflash - it ain't 1994 anymore, yo. There's a reason they broke up.

Jamal says:

there's more than one reason they broke up.

the Toadies could wait another ten years and they'd still be better than 99% of the shit that's out there (local or national, signed or unsigned).

i know i'll be front and center- so will a shit ton of people i know.

Noah says:

There are a shit ton of people who like bad music in this town, so I'm inclined to believe you.

MC Kenneth About to Beginneth says:

The Burden Brothers were terrible. Toadies just need to get fat, starting screaming fuck a bunch of times, drop tune every song to C, and rock it at the curtain club with the rest of the burnouts that still think Pantera's 1991 sound is still relivant and/or cool. Todd Lewis will need to trade in his Gibson for a Jackson though.

Golen Sapel says:

I'm hearing Greggo will be on mouth-harp.
Rock me.

Toadies....Baby. We're Ready for some new stuff. I am pretty sure there must be some new materials that Vaden and the guys are working on. I have never heard that song that you can hear in that "pirated" video. Vaden sounded pretty upset that someone would sneak into their rehersal and try to video tape the band. Listen to his response on 105.3 last week. Hope it is a new CD. There's always hoping!!

Donna says:

I've seen this video - it is really poor quality - but there is something about the music that has that unmistakable Toadies sound - VTL interviewed on an austin radio station about it - tight lipped as usual!!

gosh i hope there is new music!!!

i guess i'll just have to get some tickets for the new shows to see if they'll play anything new!!

- d.

Allen says:

PROOF!!!

The Toadies are recording new material.

Check out the video.
