The Flava of AFI Dallas' Afterparties

Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 02:22:46 PM
Two things you never expected to hear in the same sentence: "Chuck D" and "Ghostbar." Or is this some elaborate April Fool's Day joke?

Only in its second year, the AFI Dallas International Film Festival's already acting like a real film fest -- which is to say, plenty o' post-screening parties are being planned in and around Victory Park, home to the host hotel, the W. Over on DC9 at Night, Pete mentions one of the bigger wingdings open to the public: In yer-kiddin'-me news, Public Enemy will perform at Ghostbar on April 1, following the Dallas debut of the doc Public Enemy: Welcome to the Terrordome, a 20-year-look at rap's most influential act. (The show actually follows the second screening of Robert Patton-Spruill's doc: It bows at 10 p.m. at the Angelika Film Center on Sunday, with the second screening at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, also at the Angelika.)

Two days later, MC Frontalot -- the star of the doc Nerdcore Rising, and the exact opposite of Chuck D -- will bring his band to the Lifestyle Fashion Terminal in Victory Park, following the doc's debut here. The film screens April 3 at 7:15 p.m. at the Angelika; after-partying commences, um, after the screening. After the jump, a red-carpet chat with Chuck D and Patton-Spruill following the doc's bow at AFIFest in L.A., and seven minutes from Nerdcore Rising. --Robert Wilonsky

Chuck D and Robert Patton-Spruill talk Terrordome:

And, look, on the horizon, it's a Nerdcore Rising:

I remember the good old days when you interviewed Chuck D. right after Fresh Prince blew us off to go hang out at West End. I miss the 80's and Reunion Arena.
