A Candidate Too Nutty For God's Sugar Daddy? How's That Possible?

Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 02:57:29 PM
Mark Graham
He will survive? Randall Dunning of Garland, who's got some especially interesting ideas about gummint.

In some circles San Antonio businessman James Leininger is known as God’s Sugar Daddy because of his penchant for supporting Bible-thumping far-right candidates. So it was no surprise, really, that Leininger was backing the candidacy of Garland’s Randall Dunning in the run-off for a seat in the state House of Representatives, District 112.

Well, something scared Leininger off, because word comes today that Leininger has withdrawn his support of Dunning. Maybe it was the fact that Dunning has a compound-like fortress on his property, complete with an underground bunker and radio towers. Or maybe it was his alleged ties to the Republic of Texas, a militia-like group that wants to secede from the U.S. But if we had to guess, we’d say it was Dunning’s oft-repeated refrain that his goal as an elected official is to destroy government from within. --Jesse Hyde

I'm Trey Garrison, and I approve of this candidate.

Lee Lutz says:

Dunning would be a disaster for N TX. He obviously would not give the Observer a comment as the description of his antics are on the tapes of the Garland City Council Meetings. Now, how could he refute his pushing the Potashnik project using tax payers money after the FBI,and others , had brought it to light. While it would make for good theater in Austin, the citizens would not be served.

Mike Pentecost says:

Mr Hyde is simply a writer with delusions of grandeur. The bunker is a standard storm cellar, the radio tower is for Emergency Management Services which he has an major part in, the fact that he has a gun(is that a crime?). I think when it;s all said and done, Mr. Leininger will find out that he was deceived by the Chen campaign. Randy is an honorable man, a dedicated leader that is driven by Christian principles. The State of Texas would be much better off with a strong leader like Randy Dunning in office, than a controllable, compromising Chen.

The Village Idiot says:

Lutz is still Nutz 'cause she lost in her unfair fight to unseat Dunning (she came to a battle of wits unarmed and only has herself to blame!). Come on Lee, admit it, you're still aiming for a guy you can't hit cause he wears body armor. Or is it you're just sweet on him?

Joe says:

Mike, which Christian principles do you mean? The ones in use during the Inquisition, or those espoused by Messrs. Falwell and Swaggart like shooting people at clinics?

Oh wait! Did you mean actually loving your neighbor, turning the other cheek, and trying to live in harmony with people of all creeds and nations? The ones actually written as being from the mouth of Christ? You know, the ones that no "Christian" leader for the past 25 years has cared to enact?
