Bush's BFF in Dallas Saves Historic Resort in Pennsylvania
Big piece this morning in The Philadelphia Inquirer about the reopening of the legendary Bedford Springs Resort in Pennsylvania, which was built in 1796 and shuttered 21 years ago before undergoing a $120-million restoration and expansion. Turns out, the historic and faraway spot where James Buchanan once had his summer home has local ties: Among those who ponied up some of the dough for the restoration are "Dallas buddies Keith Evans and Mark Langdale," says the story.
The latter name you might recognize as President Bush's appointee as U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica -- and the man overseeing construction of the George W. Bush Presidential Library on the SMU campus. Bush and Langdale, who lives in a $2.2 million home near Inwood Road and Northwest Highway, used to be next-door-neighbors in Preston Hollow -- and, during the 2000 election, he was one of Bush's biggest fund-raisers, a Pioneer worth at least $100,000 in campaign contributions. --Robert Wilonsky
