What Happens at Amon Carter Stadium Doesn't Stay at Amon Carter Stadium

Dallas-based HKS Inc., almost as popular in England as Tom Hicks

This is how much they hate Tom Hicks in the U.K.: Friday's collapse of a section of new seats at Texas Christian University's Amon Carter Stadium is making news in England this morning because the Dallas-based company responsible for the Fort Worth redo -- HKS Inc. -- was Hicks' pick to build the new Liverpool FC stadium.

Liverpool fans have been bothered by the selection of the Dallas firm, not only because there was a U.K. candidate in the running, but because HKS' initial plans for the stadium were scrapped when Hicks thought the $800-million design was too expensive. HKS scaled back the cost by a couple hundred million, but the proposed design for the cheaper stadium looks just like its more expensive predecessor, prompting some to wonder: "What corners did they actually cut?" Also, funny to see mention of "The Horned Frogs" on a British Web site. --Robert Wilonsky
