We Had Some Diamonds

• I know he said he "heard Mayor Kirk talking about a vision, talking about goals", but it sure sounded more like he said Mary Carey was talking about those things.

• Brock Obama? Oh, yeah, I can vote for him. Everybody else was pitching this "Barack" character that I can't get onboard with. But, Brock, yeah, he's a good dude. I also enjoyed, "We're all here to support him. And if we're not ... I know I am!"

• Wow. The Obama camp said nothing about anything again. But they did say "change" a million times. Is this a campaign or a drinking game? I guess the good thing is that Emmitt will help Obama sweep the all important "unable to conjugate verbs" demographic. They has to be hype about that.

• Emmitt Smith (at least based on his ESPN performances) encapsulates the very essence of the current Obama supporter: intentionally ignorant of substance, unable to think critically, and drawn to someone who speaks eloquently mainly because they can't. And I say this as someone who has supported Obama since his days as a state senator in Illinois. I love all the new faces in the crowd; don't get me wrong. But I know most of them are there for all the wrong reasons and will drop him like last year's iPod once they tire of him.

• I was there yesterday and when Kirk announced Emmitt was one of the openers I was giddy with the possibilities. Much to my disappointment he didn't really screw up too bad. Although I didn't catch "All of us in this room tonight..." (Emmitt, it's barely noon) the first time, I would also love "to help him... get on his way to Washington... So we can have... a new president... in a Barack Obama." SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!
