No Security, Not Just a Bad Rolling Stones Live Album
Many of you have pointed out the apparently lax security at Barack Obama' Reunion Arena rally last week. It was "non-existent," wrote Friend of Unfair Park "RR" last week, "no metal detectors, hand-helds, anything." The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday that the order to wave off Dallas police came directly from U.S. Secret Service, who wanted to get the crowd moving. (In a follow-up interview with the Startlegram over the weekend, Obama said he isn't worried about security at all: "I think the Secret Service are the best in the business, and the detail that I have is outstanding.")
Yesterday, The New York Times followed with its own story about Renegade's security detail, complete with a slideshow. Only, the story never mentions the Dallas complaints, which have since cropped up elsewhere (including, this morning, on The Huffington Post). What does the story say about Dallas? Guess, before you jump.
You guessed it.
That afternoon, Mr. Obama’s motorcade passed Dealey Plaza and the Texas Book Depository building, where the fatal shot was fired at President Kennedy in 1963. Several campaign aides looked out their windows, silently absorbing the scene.
Not so for Mr. Obama, who later said he had not realized he was passing the site. And no one in his car pointed it out.
“I’ve got to admit, that’s not what I was thinking about,” he said. “I was thinking about how I was starting to get a head cold and needed to make sure that I cleared up my nose before I got to the arena.”
