Do the S.M. Wright Thing

Categories: News

This morning, the Texas Department of Transportation is scheduled to give the city council's Trinity River Corridor Project Committee an update on the realignment of S.M. Wright Freeway; it's but one of four fascinating items on the committee's agenda, which also includes discussing NTTA environmental impact statements concerning the Trinity Parkway and TxDOT's budget shortfall and its impact on projects related to the Trinity Parkway and Trinity Lakes projects.

You can get a sneak peek at TxDOT's S.M. Wright Freeway plans; included on Page 4 of the nine-page briefing are two concepts for U.S. Highway 175 that will straighten out the so-called "Dead Man's Corner," including one that involves a "local art display area" at the Metropolitan Avenue intersection and "cultural history nodes" between Eugene and Driskell streets. Which seems so ... not Dallas. "Exploring funding sources ... Federal, State, County, and/or City, etc." for a much-needed project seems very Dallas. --Robert Wilonsky
