Gary Fitzsimmons and two Dallas County colleagues have come out for Obama.

In case you were waiting to choose a presidential candidate till you found out who Dallas County District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons, Dallas County Treasurer Joe Wells and Dallas County Clerk John Warren were voting for, well, the trio's done flipped its collective coin and come up ... Barack Obama. On the same day Hillary Clinton replaced her campaign manager with a longtime friend and senior adviser, the three Dallas County officials released a media missive in which they throw their collective support behind the Illinois senator who this weekend swept his way through Louisiana, Washington, Nebraska and, apparently, Maine.

Why come? Says Fitz, he's the next John Kennedy; adds Wells, “Barack Obama’s legacy as a community organizer and coalition builder is exactly what Dallas voters want in their next President.” The full release is after the jump. --Robert Wilonsky

DALLAS COUNTY OFFICIALS ENDORSE BARACK OBAMA IN MARCH 4 DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY

(DALLAS, TX) -- Dallas County District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons, Dallas County Treasurer Joe Wells and Dallas County Clerk John Warren have endorsed Illinois Senator Barack Obama in the March 4th, 2008 Texas Democratic presidential primary. In making their endorsements, all three officials explained that Senator Obama’s message of change has the best chance of resonating with Dallas County voters. “Barack Obama’s diverse coalition of supporters proves he has what it takes to bring this country together and end partisan paralysis in Washington,” said Dallas County Clerk John Warren.

Dallas County District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons added, “Barack Obama has done what no Democratic presidential candidate has been able to do since John F. Kennedy. He has electrified a new generation of Americans with his message of hope and progress.” Dallas County Treasurer Joe Wells added, “Barack Obama’s legacy as a community organizer and coalition builder is exactly what Dallas voters want in their next President.”

All three officials indicated that Dallas County will play a major role in the Democratic primary. “Dallas County voters are concerned about the nation’s economic health, foreign policy and global climate change” added Mr. Fitzsimmons. “Barack Obama’s vision is exactly what is needed to face those challenges.”

Mr. Fitzsimmons, Mr. Wells and Mr. Warren were elected to their offices in the Democratic sweep of November 2006. Mr. Fitzsimmons came to the office with a career in nonprofit management; Mr. Wells with a career in nonprofit management and as a former aide to County Commissioner Chris Semos; and Mr. Warren with a career in court administration.

Rebecca says:

I think that the way candidates are handling their campaigns says much about the way they will handle the Presidency.

You have one who has found innovative ways to raise jaw dropping sums of money, against all odds, to reach specified goals and you have one who ran into debt.

You have one who has organized an immensely successful grass roots campaign all over the country and one who was incapable of choosing the right person for the most important position in the campaign on the first try.

I think the voters in this country have concrete evidence as to who will not only be ready to lead on Day One of the Presidency, but who will also be able to do so effectively.

JoeP says:

Obama yo Mama!

I'm not sure Obama is the breath of fresh air that everyone is saying he is. He certainly takes his fair share of corporate cash. But, he is the most refreshing candidate on either side of the aisle. Plus, it's time we have a president not named Bush or Clinton.

Catbird says:

Both Clinton and Obama have Marxist world views and will do as much as they can, as fast as they can to transform America into a socialist workers paradise.

Personally, I'm voting the Obama/McCain ticket:

Obama in the primary to help knock Mrs. Clinton out and then McCain in the the general to help knock Mr. Obama out.

McCain will still give Texas back to Mexico and change out the Dollar to the "Amero" but at least he'll let us keep our guns if things don't work out nice like he planned.

This whole thing is ******!

Once in every generation we all have to put aside our petty differences, and have him clear up things today that will shape the future. lets send this human being and see what he can do; I have a gut feeling of something good this time, things can only get better. We all can look like geniuses if we VOTE OBAMA.. and he delivers.

susie white says:

we just cant have trillions of dollars go waste on a unnecessary war, while our schools fall aparts with poor healthcare and poor roads and bridges. We pay those tax dollars let it go into taking care of those things, why should we pay to fix other countries while we stuggle here as americans.

Tim Covington says:

I admit that I won't be voting for whoever gets the Democratic nomination based on their stances and voting records. However, I respect Obama more than Clinton. He answers questions in a clear and concise manner and doesn't tap dance around controversial issues. As others have said, he has run a great campaign at the grass roots level.
Also, I think Catbird’s plan is immoral and won’t achieve his goal. Obama has a better chance of beating McCain than Clinton. I know quite a few Democrats who say they will vote for whoever gets the Republican nomination if Clinton gets the nomination. The same goes for Independents. Plus, there are Republicans who will vote for McCain if Clinton gets the nomination, otherwise they will either not be voting or voting third party if Obama gets the Democratic nomination.

I just wish we could keep George W. Bush as President for another 4 years. I am bummed that Dick Cheney will not be our next President.

cactusflinthead says:

Marxist? Four more years of Bush and then Cheney? Dick doesn't have the balls to face the press, other than those purported to be so at Faux news. Why would he venture outside his bubble?
The best thing about this election is the angst and fear that has come home to roost among the conservative haters.

Aww are you all skairt? There, there keep listening to Rush he will reassure you.

340 days until Bush is only a bad memory.

tom in dallas says:

Catbird,it should be the Hillary McCain ticket.

Please vote for Hillary because she fares worse in election against McCain than Obama.

I normally vote in Republican Primary, though in 1992 I voted for Tsongas, but not much to get excited about in Republican Primary.

The Democratic primary gives us the chance to get rid of some candidates that should not have been elected 4 years ago.

4 more years of Bush / Cheney? What, is $100.74 a barrel for oil not high enough for you?
