What's Left of the Dial
Our old pal J.D. Freeman, Dallas-Fort Worth's market manager for Clear Channel Radio, fills us in today concerning some changes around the DFW dial. As in: KDGE-FM (102.1) needs a new morning show, as Lex & Terry are moving over to the recently resuscitated KEGL-FM (97.1) come January 9. (The Eagle and The Edge will simulcast the a.m. drive-time show Monday and Tuesday, before the move takes effect.) Alan Ayo, now on The Edge from 6 to 10 p.m., will be moving to middays, which means The Edge will be needing a new evening jock. "We will be announcing new evening talent in the near future," Freeman says.
Over at The Eagle, Chris Ryan will be taking over the afternoon slot -- and he'll also become the station's assistant program director. That takes effect Monday. "We will be adding additional talent to KEGL in the near future," says Freeman; any takers? The Edge and The Eagle will also be programmed by the same guy: Vince Richards, who comes from running Clear Channel's Houston rock-radio operations on Monday to take over as Dallas' operations manager. Duane Doherty, formerly at The Edge, will now work on KZPS-FM (92.5). And that, Friends, is radio news you can use. If you still listen to broadcast radio at all. --Robert Wilonsky
