State Fair Doc Flies Like an Eagle
Yesterday we received word that the locally made doc A Fair To Remember -- about, yup, the State Fair o' Texas -- received a Golden Eagle Award from Washington, D.C.-based CINE, a rather prestigious infotainment organization that boasts Ken Burns, Al Maysles and Steven Spielberg among its honorary board members. The film was directed and produced by Allen Mondell and Cynthia Salzman Mondell and played last year's AFI Dallas International Film Festival before showing up on KERA-Channel 13 in August.
DVDs are available from the Mondells' production company, Media Projects, Inc., for some $34; sure, it ain't cheap, but keep in mind these ain't exactly mass-produced. For more info about the film, here are the Mondells chatting up A Fair to Remember during its AFI debut. --Robert Wilonsky
