ACORN Goes Nuts for Kay Bailey Hutchison

Categories: News

Just saw this moments ago, about how some 30-50 members of Dallas-Fort Worth's Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now chapter were ushered out of Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison's Dallas offices this a.m. I called ACORN's local offices on Maple Avenue, and there was indeed a march on the senator's digs -- and, turns out, it was linked to the same march that took place today at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office on Stemmons Freeway, where folks were protesting delays in being granted U.S. citizenship. Which answers the question: Who organized the march on the immigration offices. "ACORN," duh.

Funny note: I called the senator's North Central Expressway HQ to see what happened. Initially the woman who answered the phone said it didn't happen, then, when pressed a little further, she told Unfair Park, "We had some people there." She then said to call the senator's Texas press rep, Matt Mackowiak, who said he didn't know anything about it. He asked me to send him the link, which I've done; he says he'll get back with more info later. But we're all good now. --Robert Wilonsky

Update: After the jump, the official word from Matt Mackowiak, the senator's press secretary.

Writes Mackowiak in an e-mail to Unfair Park this afternoon:

This morning a large group of people from ACORN came to the building in Dallas which houses our Dallas office. About 25 representatives came up to meet with some of our staff. They spoke for some time and after the group's concerns were address[ed] the group went back downstairs and left. Although one person invited them to come down and address the entire group, another person said it was not necessary.

No one in our office contacted the police. A tenant on the same floor called 911 due to the number of people and the noise.
