Gosh, That Street Corner Could Really Use Another Bank Branch

Categories: Biz

Apartments ain't the only thing coming down in the DFW -- corner-lot gas stations are also going the way of the dodo, only to be replaced by banks of banks (like you hadn't noticed). Specifically, gas stations are giving way to Wachovia branches, according to The Wall Street Journal, which reports that nine of Wachovia's 75 branches in the DFW have been built on top of former gas stations.

They're good spots, sure -- high visibility, easy access. Also, expensive: Says one local real-estater, one bank paid close to $375,000 for an annual lease on a corner lot of less than half an acre. Also, local Wachovia branches make good spots for fake bank-robbery tips. --Robert Wilonsky
