Deuces Out, Dallas

Categories: Girl on Top

I've packed up my carnivorous plant and my reporter's notebook-sized marker drawing by Tony Bones. The mini-cassette of my brief interview with Gavin Rossdale is carefully tucked away in Ziploc. The Hornbuckle research practically needed its own box, but I managed to get what's left of every unused promotional item ever sent to me by Bliss Spa in one tiny corner of cardboard with the Lieutenant Blender's Hurricane In A Bag.

As of the end of the day, I will have no longer have a home next to the thundering voice of Fingers of Fury on the seventh floor of 2501 Oak Lawn Ave. I won't depart for Austin for another week, but there's a lot to be done in the meantime. And by that, I mainly mean boozing and mislabeling boxes before I speed south on I-35 with two meowing cats in crates to make my new home in Austin.

My final column will appear in next week's paper version of Unfair Park, but I'll say goodbye here too. Dallas, you have been nothing short of great to me. I'll definitely give you a drunk dial sometime.

In closing, I'd like to mention two brief items of shameless self-promotion, which I know many of you will find shocking. Firstly, if you haven't yet had an opportunity to heckle me at a comedy show, I invite you to stop by Club Dada this Sunday at 7:30 p.m. for a year-end comedy revue headlined by Linda Stogner of the Backdoor Comedy Club and Paul Varghese of Comedy Central's Live At Gotham. I'll do a short set too. There's no cover.

Secondly, if you can't make it out on Sunday, please come say goodbye (or hello and goodbye) to me at Club Dada January 5, for my send-off party. Rock and roll will be provided by Travis Hopper, J.D. Whittenburg, the Happy Bullets, Dove Hunter and possibly some more people I can't remember now (and probably won't be able to remember the next morning).

Miss you already. --Andrea Grimes
