Carlos Quintanilla, before he got arrested ... for failure to maintain financial responsibility. No justice, no peace!

If you missed the ironic news flash, controversial Dallas activist Carlos Quintanilla went from preparing to lead a protest against Irving’s treatment of illegal immigrants to sitting in the Irving jail yesterday. The news isn't very stunning: A number of people I talked to for this profile of Quintanilla in the paper version of Unfair Park saw this coming a long time ago.

A year ago, he was leading opposition to Farmers Branch's anti-illegal immigrant policies. Recently, he’s been rallying Hispanics to fight Irving’s use of the Criminal Alien Program. Only, Quintanilla’s arrest had nothing to do with civil disobedience, but merely a host of traffic violations from an array of local agencies. That's not embarrassing at all -- used to happen to Martin Luther King Jr. every other week. And worse, when your cause is working to sway public opinion in your general direction, the last thing you need is one of your leaders plastered on the cover of The Dallas Morning News getting bailed out of jail for expired registration and failing to wear a seat belt. After the jump, Irving PD's complete list of warrants. --Megan Feldman

Who did Carlos have credibility with? The guy is a self-promoter. Calling Carlos a liar would be redundant.

religion of bacon says:

Ryan, can you summarize what he said on KRLD? Did he refer to himself as an "undocumented driver?" Gosh darn those evil Irving cops, don't they know that when you bust a Hispanic for traffic violations, that's racism?

Quintanilla has no regard for immigration laws, so why would anyone be surprised that he has a disregard for other laws?

Hey Carlos -- get out of my city and go back to Dallas, you self-aggrandizing loser.

religion of bacon says:

That DMN article has some priceless "activist logic":

Some of Mr. Quintanilla's supporters said he views his arrest as an example of the disparities in how people are treated in Irving.

"He wanted me to pass on the message that 1,638 people were arrested [since last fall], and they didn't have the opportunity to be bailed out because they are not here legally," said Abimael Cerda, event coordinator for Accion America.

Uh, Carlos -- you're not being held because you're an illegal, you're being held because you haven't posted bail yet.

And the implication that people who entered the country illegally will report for deportation after they've been released on bail is just laughable.

Ayn Rand says:

Carlos Quintanilla - once a crook, always a crook.

As reported by the Dallas Observer, he is a convicted felon (fraud) from Chicago.

carlos quintanilla says:

The end result is that today in Irving, after they conducted an immigration interview with a United States Citizen by the name of Carlos Quintanilla, the CAP policy was changed.

Individuals who do not have a drivers license or photo id will not be deported from Irving. Talk about that.

I knew Carlos from his days in chicago, he was the leader of a street gang called the Imperial Gangsters. He was a real punk.
