Two Big Holidays Tomorrow. Well ...
Tomorrow marks a major holiday -- at least according to the folks at the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. Some four years back, the Cotton Bowl folks decided to commemorate the first Saturday in November as National College Football Day, so designated because on November 6, 1869, Rutgers defeated Princeton by the score of 6-4 in what must have been an absolutely thrilling game. But it's less a commemoration than fund-raiser for a good cause: The Cotton Bowl's partnering with the V Foundation for Cancer Research, selling items like the lapel pin featured here to raise some scratch for the foundation named for Jim Valvano.
And if you didn't know it was National College Football Day, well, that's fine. But this year, the Cotton Bowl's brought in plenty of folks to raise awareness, including the American Football Coaches Association, the National Association of Division IA Football Officials and the Football Writers Association of America.
Says Bruce Gadd, chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association: “Our goal is to continually grow National College Football Day while increasing awareness and raising money on behalf of The V Foundation for Cancer Research, and we took a major step towards reaching our goal this year with the addition of these great partners.”
Bet you also didn't know tomorrow is National Sandwich Day, for which Craft's top chef Tom Colicchio has some tips, many tips. Now if it were just National Knob Creek Day and National Free All-Day Babysitting Day, Saturday would be perfect. --Robert Wilonsky
