Tony Hearts, Um, Brett?

C'mon, you know Tony Romo has a picture of Brett Favre hanging somewhere in his locker.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is unofficially dating everyone. But, turns out, he was never really in love with Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. Or was he? “I was more of a basketball fan,” Romo says of growing up in Burlington, Wisconsin. “Michael Jordan was the guy I had hanging on my walls.” Hmmm.

The popular story entering Thursday night's NFC showdown between 10-1 big dogs is Favre vs. Romo, as in Idol vs. Groupie. Romo, whether it’s the truth or merely a deliberate ploy to de-canonize Favre, is downplaying any affection for Green Bay’s Future Hall of Famer. He even says he rooted for John Elway and the Denver Broncos over Favre’s Packers in Super Bowl XXXII.

This week Romo won’t even do his spot on imitation of Favre, including the immediate unbuckling of the chin strap after every stinkin’ play. Some teammates, however, know that Romo is only temporarily shelving his admiration for No. 4. “Oh, Favre was always his guy,” said Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. “He’s just going to downplay it this week.” --Richie Whitt
