How to Own the Dallas Skyline
As we've said many times before, Heritage Auction Galleries does a good job making big coin for folks looking to ditch their high-priced pop-culture collectibles. In most cases, though, the items up for auction have little connection with Dallas. Not this weekend, when Heritage disposes of the Crow Art Partnership Collection, which includes everything from an Egyptian carved-wood sarcophagus that dates back to the time of Moses to a sculpted longhorn bull-rider that used to be on display at the Men's Apparel Mart here.
The collection "represents a portion of the holdings of one of the largest real estate developers in the world," says Heritage's consignment director, Gary Hendershott. The auction takes place Saturday at the Anatole Hotel (no surprise there, as it is a Crow Holding). And there is a piece I'd like, if you're looking for birthday presents: Bob "Daddy-O" Wade's Dallas Skyline, which was commissioned in 1980 and hung for years on the sixth floor of the Dallas Market Center. Should be cheap enough: Opening bid's at $4,000, though it'll probably go for somewhere in the mid-five figures. Dang it. --Robert Wilonsky
