Jovan!

J. Jovan Philyaw -- a Hanna-Barbera creation, perhaps? Or maybe the manufacturer of mom jeans? A musk you get at Wal-Mart? No, silly -- you remember Jeffry Jovan Philyaw, who also goes by his secret identity J. Hutton Pulitzer: He's "one of the most prolific independent Inventors of modern times." He created the CueCat, silly. All together now: Cue. Cat. And, yup-yup, he's back with another invention.

And, to tell you the truth, we have no idea what the eff it is. Sorry, but we can't make heads or tails of the patent Jovan and David Kent Mathews, both still at LV Partners on Cole Avenue, were issued on Tuesday by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Here's the really short version: "Method and apparatus for opening and launching a web browser in response to an audible signal." But keep reading, and it gets less decipherable with every syllable. Look out, Robert Decherd. S'all I'm sayin'. --Robert Wilonsky

yeah, that's EXACTLY what everyone needs - for someone to have the ability to remotely control my web browser via audio.

"dang it, judy, turn down the television! i'm trying to check my email."

PJW says:

Again how much did the CueCat cost "the BORG"?

Terry says:

OMG...do any other ancient techies like me remember the Gawd awful tech show he had? I think it was on Saturday morning maybe and had another guy and some woman? They would hype all the "new technologies" (especially Cue Cat). The single most awful broadcast to ever hit the airwaves in DFW. Bad to the point of being pure camp. Me and some fellow geeks used to watch it and LOL!!

Emilio Velasquez, Jr. says:

AAIIEEEE!!!

It is the Season of the Demons, and Satán himself has now returned to seduce El Roberto Grande!

Oh, Woe! Woe!

Who or what will now be sacrificed to pay for the bedazzling new trinkets Satán brings?

Some of the (One, two, three...twelve!? There are twelve of them!? They really need that many!?) editorial staff?

The newsprint itself?! What if Satán's new device can beam The Dallas Morning News DIRECTLY INTO OUR BRAINS!?!?

(It was Satán who turned Counting Sheep Number 29 into Papi Jorge, you know.)

OH, WOE! WOE!

Emilio

I thought the damned Cue Cat was going to be good. However, during that era any teleconnect or computer gadget went off the boards, until the nexat week. Cue Cat did so badly his new invention will realy be looked at with jaundice eyes.

El Rey says:

I forwarded a copy of this article to the legal department at Nuance Software. I find his patent application funny because I can already do what it purports using Dragon Naturally Speaking software... I am no lawyer, but this looks like theft of intellectual property here, or at least plagiarism.

These guys that try to get rich off patent extortion should be hung up by there little toes! Come up with an original idea and develop it, then patent it.

Cameron Bentley says:

Jovan is the one that was asked to help with Baytan selftanner and then ran off with $3 million. Is he not in jail yet?

He also said he sold his soul to the devil as a child. How strange is that?
