Yesterday, DC9 at Night posted the roster for the Carter Albrecht Memorial concert, scheduled to take place October 20 at the Granada Theater: Sorta, the Old 97’s, The Slack, Salim Nourallah, the Drams, Junky Southern and other "special guests." The event, proceeds from which will go to the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation being set up by Albrecht's parents through Northern Trust Bank, will be emceeds by KTCK-AM (1310, The Ticket) afternoon-show co-host Mike Rhyner, with doors opening at 6 p.m. for a 7 o'clock start.

Having been at producer Tom Bridwell's house two weeks ago, as Sorta finished the album they began with Albrecht more than a year ago, let me say this: It's absolutely remarkable that the band will perform on October 20. I got the sense that night, which stretched well into the morning as the band struggled to lay down backing vocals Albrecht would have handled himself, that Sorta wasn't on the verge of calling it quits, but wasn't ready to play without Albrecht -- certainly, not in front of folks who haven't been through what they have in recent weeks. Special doesn't even begin to describe this -- not even close. --Robert Wilonsky
