Re-Pete After Me

Categories: Sports
Pete Sampras is bringing his bag of yellow balls to Frisco this weekend.

You could trek to Arlington this weekend to pay your last respects to a suck-ass baseball outfit that last night lost its 82nd game of 2007 and clinched its seventh losing season in the last eight years. Or you could choose to watch the greatest tennis player of all time. Up to you.

Me? I’ll be in Frisco Saturday night witnessing a rare visit by Pete Sampras, holder of 14 Grand Slam titles and better known these days as Roger Federer’s imminent prey. As part of something called the FedEx Shootout, Sampras will play an exhibition against 2005 U.S. Open semifinalist Robby Ginepri at the Dr Pepper StarCenter’s Deja Blue Arena Saturday night at 7. For a mere $28.50, you can see Pistol Pete, now 36, tuning up for his trio of exhibition matches against Federer in November in Asia. Consider it kind of like watching Jack Nicklaus play a practice round in preparation for a grudge match against Tiger Woods. What, you’d rather watch this guy strike out four more times? --Richie Whitt
