Dallas Man Pays Small Fortune So His Son Can "Act" With Will Ferrell

Three days ago, an auction ended on eBay, and the winner will have to pony up $47,100 to claim the item, which was no small thing: a role in a forthcoming Will Ferrell movie. Actually, it kind of is a small thing: "Note to bidders - The role that is being auctioned off is a non-speaking role as an extra." And, yeah, the winner gets two tix to a charity banquet in Southern Cali tomorrow -- only the winner has to get there on his own dime, if he wants to meet the Old School star. But, hey, it's for a cancer charity run by one of Ferrell's USC fraternity brothers. So there's that.

Turns out, the winner's a 10-year-old boy from right here in Dallas -- who, we dunno, since the family's chosen to stay anonymous. But the family did release a statement: "Winning this auction means a lot to me on a very personal basis. I lost my mother to ovarian cancer a few years ago, so I feel fortunate that my 10-year-old and I are able to participate in an event involving Cancer for College and Will Ferrell." --Robert Wilonsky
